Preparing for surgery
Hi, My name is Nicole and I don't have an official date yet. My unofficial date is March 13th though. I have been told to plan on a late March or early April date. Anyhooo,,,I was just wondering what you are all doing to prepare your body for surgery? Like, have you started drinking protein drinks yet? Extra vitamins? Also, I have three kids. 5,8 and 10 and am debating about how much or even if I will tell them prior to my surgery. I am leaning towards telling them but I dont know how much info to give them and also, Idont really want them blabbing in school about it. So any advice or opinions there would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Nicole
Welcome to the board Nicole!
Prep for me is just trying not to gain weight and doing more protein. I know I should be chewing my food more to get ready but it's hard to remember to go through those motions now. I will be working toward that though.
I have heard dieting before the surgery ups your immune system, so I'm not dieting really, but I'm pseudo-low carbing as that really helps me as well. I drink the low-carb milk and eat low carb products that I like that are not too expensive.
As for the kiddos, I'm not sure what to say. If you don't want it blabbed around and are pretty sure they will do that, you could maybe just tell them you are having surgery but not exactly what. If they persist, you could just say it's for a hernia or something maybe....
Oh - and other than that, I come here to laugh my butt off. It has been a TON of fun!
I am my own blabber mouth. I tell everyone. Of course I get a ton of different reactions. But I have only had to tell one person, this is my decision, I am going through with it, please support me.. AND THEY HAVE.
I think one of the best comments I have recieved so far is try to stop the caffeine and the sugar. You will have a hard enough time with the surgery without having withdrawls and headaches too. So that is my goal.
And be prepared. I got most all my personal items, the tongs to wipe my hiney and the wipes to use on the tongs. (Most important)
Hi Nicole,
For me prep is just to start some of the behaviors that I will have to abide by the rest of my life. More water More chewing and at least 64g of protien. Doing vitamins and b-12. Have a breathing thingy to help me take deeper breaths (My main problem is oxygen as in not enough) I use it 5 times a day. Walk at least twice a day for 10 minutes. And I get to do all this tethered to an oxygen concentrator.
This the best site by far that I've come to. Lovable, beer drinking, depends wearing, nipple taping, johnny flapping, and supportive bunch you ever want to run into. Then we have Va with her Squirrels? Who knows what that is about? Welcome aboard Fasten your seat belt we could take a flip at any moment........

Kimmer STOP yelling at the puter and you won't go hoarse. We can't hear you ! A johnny is the gown they give you at the hosiptal. The one that gives you draft when you walk to the potty or GOD FORBID down the hallway. You know snaps and ties nice faded color of some kind.
I can't help you with the dazed and confused part as I am suffering from that also.
