Sung to the tune of "Row Row Row Your Boat..."
Heyyy - who said we have to give up gum? I hardly ever chew it but know for ABOSOLUTE certain that I will need it when the dragon breath starts taking over! Who made up that rule? Bring 'em out - time for a flogging!
(And hey Kimmer - with how many guffaws are on this board , I have a feeling we're going to be bringing our BMI's down by about 10 points before we actually have surgery! )
Dina---who has just discovered that yes, indeedy, her feet are asleep...
Gum is TOTALLY forbidden by both my surgeons (past and present) AND my nutritionist. Apparently, when ya chew it, you inadvertently swallow little bits of air. Not good, I guess. But the biggest reason is if you swallow it (never have...): it may block your new stoma. Serious problems. Have to scope you. Not fun.
This 'demand' annoyed me. I chewed Nicorette, and figured that'd be great for my pain/nicotine love affair post-op. Can't do it now. Will have to stick with my Nicotrol Inhalers.
I've already bought several packages of those Listerine Breath Strips (they dissolve on your tongue...great little invention) for the Dragon Breath. Found some at Walgreens that are actually sugar-free!

Zero-minus-18 and counting!
Ding dang it! Suuuuuure - they have to come up with a logical reason why not to chew it. Sheesh. Maybe I'll take up those Nicotrol inhalers!!!
JUST KIDDING. Seriously. I didn't quit to start again!
Dina ----who is now very happy she had to stop chewing as much gum when she got her 2 tooth partial that everything sticks to.
On the subject of TMJ, ask your DR of course, but I have found that Gluclosamine with Chrondroitin helps my TMJ A WHOLE LOT! I have had TMJ for about 15 years and this helps just as good as the Good drugs without the side effects. It does about 6 weeks to begin working though. But I am not looking forward to chewing and chewing....makes me think of cows chewing clover!
Cathy - I will certainly try that if it shows back up for me later. For some reason I haven't had the problem for several years now. I'm thinking it's because I have been in physical therapy so long for neck/back/shoulder problems that it may have taken care of it over time. Funny how I forgot all about that until now!
