Hi yall. I just learned from a girl who's been out for 16 days that if you add a jar of baby food meat to your pureed soup that it gives an extra 9gms of protein and you cant taste it. So add it to your shopping lists. Oh and she also said Wendi's Chili is totally yummy pureed.

Good idea. I've got several jars of Gerber Mystery Meat here. I'll try it. Tell yer bud we said "Hey, schmanks!!" As for the chili, my nutritionist (who had RNY in September 2003) said to avoid any citrus or spice until my pouch is TOTALLY healed. She likened it to putting lemon juice or pepper into a cut on your skin or a canker sore in your mouth...you CAN do it, but it'll SMART quite badly. Owie. Gonna try that chili thing down the road, but not as soon as your friend did. Call me cautious (sheeya, right...me? Cautious? ). A LOT of people have said that pureed stuff tastes fine, actually tastes pretty much the same, it's just the visual thing you have to get past. I'm stuck with it, so I'll be trying it. Ill tell her, Ill tell her. She also said SF popsicles are her friend and are included in liquid intake. Oh, good point about the Chili.. althouth IIRC Wendi's isnt that spicy.. but it could be JUST too spicey.. know what I mean? HOw long does it take for the pouch to heal? My mom is making me home-made chicken soup, without the abc letters and blending it for me.. pouring it into ice cube trays for me to pop out and defrost later. Thought that would be a good tip too.. makes the prep work less when we are still healing. Have any of you bought an immersion blender? OMG it is the BEST thing EVER invented. Ive been practicing with it a lot lately. Makes THE best frozen drinks EVER. Blends the ice completely into the drink. I suggest anyone who doesnt have one.. gets one.

What the HOOEY is an immersion blender?!? Gonna hafta go look that one up on eBay (where I got my way-cool Hamilton Beach blenders that the old soda jerks used to use...GREAT for my shakes!). Quite a few people have suggested the ice cube tray boogie. I personally have taken stock in Gerber Baby Food. Figure if I don't eat it, my precious 3 month old great-nephew, Tyler (the MOST gorgeous baby alive, IMHO), will snarf that stuff down instead - he's a SNARFPUPPY!!! I DID, however, buy 6 packs of those Glad semi-disposable storage containers in the 1/2 cup size (they come 8 to a pack)...gonna spend my last days pre-op makin' up all kinds of jello single-serves in 'em. I'm allergic to aspartame, so I have to make jello with SF KoolAid {the old fashioned kind with NO sweetener}, Knox Gelatin, and Splenda. Also gonna make up some pudding cups if I get the ambition {again, old fashioned way, but with Splenda}. Youse guyses have NO idea how lucky you are that you can use aspartame. This was my biggest concern: that I'd have to drink only water and broths, etc, 'cuz I can't use anything with aspartame. But God was GOOD, and His timing was PERFECT -- the last few trips to buy supplies I've noticed that there's a zillioin new "Splenda'ed" products out. Saved MY life (maybe literally!). I just need to get thru that first week post-op. My elderly Mom insists on "taking care" of me, and I've got to get everything set up so there's nothing for her to do. I figure after I'm up and about again, I'm gonna be bored to insanity and will "play" Domestic Goddess again. I don't remember what my nutritionist said 'bout exactly how long 'til I can use the acidic stuff, but it seems that I'd figured I could go buy it myself, so that HAS to be at least 2 weeks. She WARNED me not to irritate my pouch, said it'll be swollen and raw (makes sense). I SO believe her! I'm thinking a healed pouch will be a happy pouch! An immersion blender is like a blender on a stick. Im sure youve seen the info-mercial.. the girl makes whipped creme out of skim milk and sugar???!!!! Its the coolest thing. Even if it werent for the GBS, I couldnt live with out it. Youre mom sounds like she is the coolest. My Mommy is gonna take the kids on the weekends for me so my fiance can work those days. He's taking two weeks off to take care of me, but since he sells cars.. and the weekends are usually busy.. he'll work then. I wish she'd come and take care of me instead. Masio (the fiance) will end up driving me crazy. lol

OH! A "stick" blender! Heck, I already burnt my first one out, am on my second one. I WAS gonna get a Braun...it's got the stick blender with a mini-food processor attachment. But I already have a mini food processor, so I just got the blender. Yeah, my Mom's pretty neat. She's not in good health and has NO business taking care of me. But her heart is set on it, so I can't take that away from her. So I'm gonna be sleeping with one eye open the entire time she's with me. Kimmer Kills Appliances Zero-minus-18 and counting!

Great idea! I hear nonfat dry milk makes a good protein additive to many foods as well. Joy (3/1)

Kimmer you are lucky to have your mom to help you. Mine is in a nursing home and we are having to delay telling her the date of my surgery. We are not sure how she will handle it. She knows I am working on it and have had a lot of Dr appointments. Once I get home from the hospital I will be by myself with some friends a phone call away. I am trying to do a lot a pre-op stuff too. I have some broths already and some popcicles (SF) of course. I also have some protein drinks I got from a site I cannot advertise and vitamins.
