I've been rethinking the RNY in favor of the duodenal switch. I know it would mean that I'd have to start all over again with the approval process which would push the surgery into May or June. I'm just wondering if anyone else is doing or has considered the DS?

HI JOANNE, YES I HAD THAT SAME THOUGHT BUT KNOW I CANNOT STAY AWAY FROM THE SUGARS AND FAT SO I`M STAYING W/ RNY. PLUS WITH ALL THE PRESS NOW ABOUT THE SURGERY AND MANY INS. CO`S ARE SAYING THIS WILL BE THE LAST YEAR THEY PAY FOR IT. SO I`M ALREADY APPROVED AND EVERYTHINGS IN PLACE AND MY DATE IS THE 11TH SO WHY MESS WITH IT !!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK ON WHAT EVER YOU DECIDE. I did the same thing. Actually when I started researching the BPD/DS I really felt more at peace about it and I know that is the surgery for me. I have fought my insurance company for two years and am now going to Spain (self pay) and have surgery by Dr. Baltasar. There are several good websites for DS. Such as www.duodenalswitch.com and Dr. B has a couple of good sites too. www. bodybybaltasar.com and drbaltasar.com. Good luck in whatever surgery you decide.

Hi, Joanne!! You have to do what is right for YOU. The Roux en Y is the "gold standard" for WLS. But it's not for everyone. Good luck on your endeavor! Kimmer Queen of the Niners, Instigator to all Marchers, High Priestess of Giggles Zero-minus-21 and counting!
