Hey LaDonna, Question: Did your Doctor give you a pre-op diet to follow? Meal Replacement shakes (Atkins, Carb Solutions) are a healthier alternative to starvation diets. You get your protein and vitamins, so your body doesn't go into starvation mode prior to surgery. Maybe at your pre-op visit Monday, they will give you some guidance. Good luck, Va 17 sunrises until my new life begins

Yeah I think you should ask your Dr. when you go see him/her. They should give you a diet plan that's not too bad. If they don't then I would say try do the Atkins Induction phase for the two weeks and I gaurantee you will lose atleast 10 to 15 pounds in those two weeks. In case you don't know it really is just eating any and all kinds of meats cooked however you want except for being battered with any flour type substance. You can eat pretty much any kind of vegetable except corn and carrots(too much sugar in them). You can also have as much salad as you wish with ranch, italian, and others jus****ch the carbs that's in it. You're trying to stay at or under 20 carbs a day. You'll feel like you want to get off of the diet within the first 2 to 3 days. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that you are able to have eggs, bacon, sausage, mayo, cream cheese and sour cream. I ate a full breakfast except for the toast for breakfast and that pretty much got me through the day. Make sure you drink plenty, plenty, of water. You have to let your will power take charge. I think it's okay to do for you to get those extra pounds off that you need. I do wish you well and hope you can lose those 17 pounds so you won't have to change your date. 304lbs/29 days in counting

PROTEIN FIRST, LaDonna...PROTEIN FIRST! That will become our mantra after WLS. But as Pre-Ops, we HAVE to kick in our protein now. It helps in the healing process. YaShoney (sorry if I misspelled that, "Y"...) has a good suggestion. Atkins will drop pounds quickly if that's what you need to do, but it'll keep you in PROTEIN. Starving yourself is going to end up being harmful for your healing post-op. The Meal Replacement drinks are good, too. But you HAVE to keep your protein levels up pre-op. JMHO.
