Is this common, I have my final appt tommorrow before my surgery but I don't remember anything about the doctor saying something about losing weight. I hope to hell is doesn't say something like that less than three weeks from my liberation. I will have to cancel my mardi gras (fat tuesday) party. Of course my of my friends don't get why that is funny.

Not all surgeons require pre-op weightloss. I know my surgeon doesn't. Hey, if he does, just go on some kind of crash diet It will work. And don't cancel your "Fat Tuesday" Enjoy it! One day is not gonna hurt you! Kelley 28 days and a wake up!!

Hey Brad, My doc definitely requires a 10 day pre-op diet. But every doc is different. He doesn't require that his patients lose weight prior to surgery, but if you adhere to the diet you can't help but lose. You'll find out tomorrow, for sure. Hi Brad, My doctor does not require pre op weight loss. But he did give me a food plan and has me keeping a food diary. My pre op plan is not really that much different that the way I have been eating for the last 18 months, other than watching the fats. I actually feel like I have gotten more to eat following the food list he gave me. I had been watching my carb intake (pre-consultation), but when I am so restrictive on the carbs, I tend to go overboard when I have the least little deviation. Now I am more selective about my carbs and they are back in my eating plan. I just pick from the 'slower' burning carbs. I get my carb fix and my body is happy. I went for an 'interim' check up this past Wednesday. I had only lost 3 pounds. I wasn't particularly amused, but the doctor was very happy. I think some of my doctor's ideas are different than the average, but I can see his reasoning behind them and it works for me. Each person's experiences, both pre and post op will be different. Take care, Mo (with the happy dancin' Mo feet )

Hiya, Brad! Nope, no pre-op dieting required for me, either. I even began to wonder if maybe I'd missed something, since everyone else seems to have to lose some before surgery. Coincidentally, my nutritionist called, so I asked her. Nope, only requirement is NPO after midnite the nite before. Works for me! I'm getting all my "cravings" outta the way...all the stuff I know I won't be able to have for several months. Yup, I'm a real snarf-puppy these days, snarfing down all the "Last Supper" wants.... Hi Brad We have the same date. My surgeon doesn't require weight loss, but he was very pleased when my weight was down by 3 lbs between my consultation and after all the testing. (probably 3 lbs of blood that was taken out of me). Anyway, I was reading about my next (and last) consult with the nutrientist and info seminar I am required to attend on 2/19 and I saw in Big Letters on the paper. "YOU MUST COME TO THE OFFICE AFTER THE MEETING FOR YOUR FINAL WEIGH IN" - now I am worried that there is a weight loss requirement that I didn't know about. I Hope not, cuz, I am starting to empty my cuboards by eating everything in them. Good Luck Brad. Janet

I have to do a final weigh in too, but mine is so that I will have an accurate measurement of how much weight is lost due to the surgery.

I don't have to do any diet before hand. I am all clear 20 days.

My surgeon would LIKE for his patients to lose weight because it makes his job easier, as he says. When you lose weight quickly or before surgery, your liver will shrink and its easier for him to get around it during surgery. I've heard some patients were postponed because of their "last supper syndrome", so I'm really, really crossing my fingers that I've lost at least 5 pounds before the final consent appt. If I'm postponed I may have to kill him or sit on him LOL! And don't cancel your Fat Tuesday plans!! Take care, Wendy
