Hi, My name is Dianna I'm from Tx. They say that everthing in Texas is bigger and better. But this Texas woman will be on her way to getting smaller and better. My surgery is March 5, 2004. My husband and two of my kids are happy about it but my Mom and oldest son is not pleased. My mom asked me to try other ways to lose weight. But I told her that I am tired of being tired and the yo-yo dieting, I want to do things with my kids. You would think that they would be happy after the year that I gave them in 2003. Feb. heart attack and a stent. May the stent closed up . June had 2 med. stents put in. Oct. had to have open heart surgery because all stents were closed. This is the first time that I thought about getting on this message board I have just been reading it .Good Luck to everyone that will be having WLS.Thanks for reading this and supporting all the people that is changing there lives for the best. May God Bless Each One

Hey Dianna, Don't worry too much about your mom's attitude right now. You ARE doing the absolute best thing for yourself and those that love you. When she sees the results in the coming months, the life and energy you will have, she will come around. Happy thoughts! Va

Hey Virginia, It was nice to hear from you. Thanks for your input on things.Last night I was thinking that the reason that they are having a problem with the WLS is that I might start getting their clothes and wearing them. My sisters are afraid of that to ,they have always been smaller than I am. My older son says that I will look nasty. I asked him if he wanted me to look nasty fat or nasty being smaller. Thanks Again Dianna

Diana, You are doing the best thing for you. You can't focus on other people's opinions. I do agree with you, after the year you had in 2003, this is a good choice for you. From my side, I am choosing NOT to tell my mother. She is 84 years old, and is extremely judgemental. I may tell her after the fact, or I may never tell her. I have issues there that I have finally come to peace with. Hugs, Mo P.S. and welcome to the board, fellow lurker!!! I did that for a few days myself before I finally posted.

Hi Maureen , Thanks for your support it makes a person feel good. I started not to tell my mother, but I got to thinking that if I didnt and something happen to me I did not want her to blame my husband. That is the only reason. I think that you are doing the right thing as for as your mother. If you told her you might would have to cancle your surgery to take care of her. Thanks again for your message it was nice to hear other people. WHEN IS YOUR DATE. Hugs to you to, Dianna

Hi Dianna, My re-birthday is March 22. I am wound up big time today after having confirmation that my surgery has been approved AND for the right surgeon and hospital (there was a tiny mix up since I had seen someone else before I decided to go with Dr Sofronski at Delmarva Bariatric). It is a little easier for me to keep this from my mother because we are geographically separated by 250 or so miles. I love my mother, but as I said, I do have some 'fat' issues where she is concerned. This is the kind of thing that I need to be able to see her face to face to discuss (I remember 4 1/2 years ago trying to explain my hysterectomy to her over the phone), and I don't have the emotional stamina for that right now. Both of my sisters know what is going on and they are sworn to secrecy where Mom is concerned. But I do have them for support and my husband is very supportive of this change in my life. Keep posting on this board. It is a wonderful source of friends and fiends (i.e. Kimmer ) and the best support network you could hope for. Hugs, Mo

Hi, Dianna! Don't be too rough on your Mom. MAYBE she's just running scared BECAUSE of the year you had. There are those that just can't see past the surgery and "risk" -- I was one of them in a past life. Once she sees how incredibly great you're doing, she'll do what I did in that past life...realize how wrong she was and change her tune. Then you can do the happy dance together. Have you been approved yet, or still in the process? Got a date? Welcome to our little kingdom! Hey, we don't toss ANYONE aside! We love abusing EVERYONE! But since you've had your share of cardiac problems, we'll be easier on you -- we won't leave bruises where anyone can see 'em! You'll be re-plumbed 4 days before me... Kimmer Queen of the Niners, Instigator to All Marchers, High Priestess of Giggles Zero-minus-26 and counting!!
