Pureed food

I bought a baby food grinder (OK--I admit it--I bought it on EBay)! Tonight my DH made some terrific stirfry: shrimp, crab, chicken, cauliflour, cabbage, onions with soy sauce Well, I put the leftovers into my grinder, pureed them and poured them into a plasti**** tray. Each "cube" is 1 oz. That will make some terrific high-protein servings post op. Into the freezer it goes! I may be crazy , but the thought of baby food makes me gag--I don't see anything prohibiting a bit of flavor in our puree. In reading postop notes, they do not seem to have trouble with spice, just carbs and grease. Please share your ideas... Joy "Canary" (3/1)

I hope that I get motivated to try something like that. At the moment I am planning on going the baby food route, but I think between the posts on these boards and my support group meetings I will get other ideas. Mo

I don't think I'll be pureeing many foods unless absolutely necessary. My stage 4 (soft and pureed)(2-3 weeks after discharge) food list consists of... (says only puree if specified) Fish (sole, haddock, flounder, scrod, etc) Salmon (fresh or canned in water) Tuna, canned in water (may add mayo to moisten) Chicken, canned in water, canned turkey (may add mayo to moisten) Imitation seafood (i.e. crabmeat) (may add mayo...) Fat-free cheese or low fat cheese (

When my DH had his surgery, he never ate any baby food. We bought a food processor, and I put everything in it -- I still do hamburger this way (after it is cooked, I drain, then rinse in ho****er, then grind in the food processor). Right after he was home, he was on potato soup, tomato soup, chicken broth, etc. Just a piece of advice -- when it is time to try meats, be very cautious and careful to chew vigorously. Especially canned shredded chicken and tuna. It can get stuck. Oh, and also, Dr. Baker told me about a woman who was over a year post op, and was baking cookies for her kids using coconut, she ate a little dab of it, and it got stuck. She ended up having to have surgery to remove it, so just please be careful when you eat. Not trying to scare anyone, just wanted to let you know that it can happen.

Hey, Joy-ful C! I'm comin' to YOUR house to eat!! I live alone and survive on things like sammiches, Lean Cuisines, and eating Healthy Choice Honey Roasted Smoked Turkey Breast slice-by-slice right out of the baggie they put it in at the deli counter... For the past two summers, I've had nothing but asparagus out of the can - I mean, I open a can and eat it OUT of the can literally (conserves on water that way -- don't have to wash out a bowl! ). All summer. Two summers now. Almost like a pica. Think I lost weight? Nope...gained. So goes the story of my alien metabolism. Every now and then I'll actually cook something 'real', but then I have to eat off of it for awhile (reference my twice-baked spaghetti a couple of weekends ago). Yesterday I WAS gonna go shopping and get the stuff to make stuffed cabbage and brew up a cauldron of that for this upcoming week: been craving it and it's on my "Last Supper" list. But it was about 15 degrees out there and this head cold had me down most of the day, so that isn't gonna happen this week...it's about 7 out there now, I'm staying INside... Actually, I'm with Mo -- gonna do the baby food boogie. Some of it isn't bad if ya add spices, salt and pepper. Their "beef vegetable" dinner is just like Campbell's bean/bacon soup, only thicker. PLUS...I can eat it out of the jar. Nope -- can't start turning back into Martha Stewart now -- gave that up years ago. ANYway...let me know what tomorrow's dinner is, eh? I could maybe stop by after work... Kimmer Single and Accountable To No One

Actually, your stuffed cabbage sounds good--throw in a food processor and freeze it in small servings. Note: My HUSBAND cooked the stir fry--I don't cook much at all! Joy (3/1)

Yo, J.C.! I buy AND sell on eBay (I only sell in spurts when I need money or want to get rid of stuff around here). Just for WLS alone, I've gotten some of my best finds there. I've gotten ALL kinds of my protein mix & protein bars for surgery. I also got an industrial strength pill smoosher: it's a pharmaceutical pill crusher and PULVERIZES those horse pills I have to take. I STOLE it on eBay for around $16, I think (I've seen 'em go for upwards of $30 at times). eBay is WAY cool... Kimmer Queen of the Niners, Instigator of All Marchers, High Priestess of Giggles
