Shower Chair
Hey all...
In the never-ending quest to gather things for after surgery that'll make our post-op time easier, I've been meaning to "share" this little tidbit with everyone...(keep forgetting, once again proving that a mind is a terrible thing to waste...)...
LONG time ago, when researching WLS, I read the suggestions from post-ops of what to have at home. One thing that made SO much sense was a chair for your bathtub/shower. I know that when I'm having a bout of FMS fatigue, I can barely stand up in the shower long enough to take one, and have even sat down at times (my fatigue gets really bad...). Anyway, for after surgery, I bought one of those molded plastic/resin patio chairs to put in the shower. I was lucky enough to find one on sale last fall, got it for the outrageous price of $1.23, and it's a perfect size for my bathtub. I even tried it when I was showering...it's WONDERFUL! I just kicked up that ho****er, settled in, and let Calgon take me away...ahhh!
Anyhoo, just thought you may want to grab one, too. Even full price, they're under $10, and well worth the investment (unless you already have one on your deck/patio...I didn't, I have metal/cloth chairs, so I bought one of these). My surgeon has warned me that right around the 4-week post-op mark, fatigue kicks in for everyone (some get it worse than others), which is why he doesn't normally let people return to work 'til after 5 or 6 weeks. I guess it's the hormone/protein/readjustment thing going on with our newly re-plumbed system.
Hasta la!

MMMMMMMMM .. I hadn't thought of a shower chair. I wonder if one of my green ones will work?? .. It will have to for the short term if I need one.
I am REALLY hoping the fatigue isn't as bad as it was when I had my hysterectomy. THAT really kicked my butt. I went back to work after 6 weeks, but it was several months before I really bounced back to normal. (AND NO COMMENTS from the peanut gallery about normal !!!!)

Now I'm worried--I am having both surgeries
Oh well, my doc assures me that if I am not ready to go back after 6 weeks he will sign for me to get more, and I am lucky enough to be covered 100% on pay by short term disability.
I'm not sure I would notice being any tireder than normal anyway!

Joy,
Other than getting tired easily, the big H was a piece of cake. I healed really well, and I really had no post operative pain, but then that was probably because I was in so much pre op pain that anything would have been better !!!
I am sure you will do just great. I had done a lot of research before my hysterectomy and I knew that the tiredness was going to be with me for a while so it wasn't a big surprise.
Hugs,
Mo
You know, showering is one of the main reasons that my husband had to have his date changed...They said that just in case I needed help bathing or wiping, I would need Jose to help me. Wiping? Come on now, I'm not letting anyone WIPE my ass! And showering? She said that Because of my weight and incisions I may have a hard time "reaching" places...BLAH BLAH BLAH, I can reach just fine... So anyway, I'll get myself a nifty little chair and relax in the shower...I'll get some body wash pour on my body and let the water do its work! Hehe Come to think of it, I'll have to find a chair that fits...My tub is kinda small...
