Topic: RE: Protein Suggestions
Hi Marilyn....
I had my surgery on 3/31/2003. I started at 365 and today, 6/28/2003, I am 291. Down 74 pounds. I am so happy. As to the protein issue. I have had some problems with that myself. But then at the last support group meeting we had a protein testing evening. Everyone brought their favorite protein drink, bar or any item. I found some that I liked. I liked the new Nectar fruit protein drinks, but they are hard to find locally, have to order on the internet. I also found out that I like a lot of things they have at Trader Joe's grocery store. Do you have those where you live? I was very surprised to find out that I like what is called Endame by the Japanese, it is soy beans that are dry roasted and they are sold in bags of 5.5 ounces. They were only 99 cents and 1/4 cup of these soy beans are 14 grams of protein. I think that is pretty good. I also bought different nuts, as nuts are high in protein and taste good too. I hope you can try something and you will like it also. Have a safe and happy weekend and a safe fourth of July.

Topic: RE: 50 lbs GONE!!!
Hi Vicky,
This is Dana! I have lost 74 pounds as of today, 6/28/2003. How have your been? Are you going to be going to the next meeting? When is the next meeting? I lost my page with the dates on it again. You know the old saying, if it weren't attached, I would lose my head. I can relate to that very well. Anyway, I hope you are feeling great!

Topic: RE: Hair Loss?? Stress??
Hi. My name is Dana and I had my lap RNY on 3/31/2003 also! Hey sister! I cannot notice any hair loss yet, because my hair was always thin because of a thyroid problem. I hope that it does not fall out any more than it has in the past. But, if it does, it will grow back. Buy scarfs, hats, etc. I'd rather be bald than have stroked out from my high blood pressure. I am down 74 pounds, from 365 to 291 today. I am so happy that I had this surgery. I am feeling so much better and can walk and shop again. I had turned into an agoraphobic, staying in my house all the time before surgery. So now I am starting to live again. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. Hey, keep in touch.
Bye for now, Dana

Hi Marilyn, The best thing you could eat fat, calorie, protein content wise is tuna in water (21 grams for 3 oz). These are convienient in the "flat" packs to take to work. I also found Nitro-Tech protein bars at GNC and they are really tasty! I had to do a double take on the sugar content to make sure it was low sugar. These bars have 35 grams of protein in them. The Smores flavor actually has bits of marshmallow and graham cracker in the middle. I also found I could tolerate protein drinks already made and ready to go-- I keep Atkins in my fridge and drink as I work (20 grams protein per drink and low sugar). Atkins also has breakfast bars that have 11 grams of protein and are very tasty. Good luck and know you are not alone!

Just know you are not alone. Try increasing your protein. If possible. Also look into vitamins that help promote hair growth. (If you can swallow pills)
I have been just getting used to it. My hair loss is by the drainful daily. It will come to an end. At least that is what the ladies in my support group tell me.
I hope so soon or I will be bald.
Take care,

I had my surgery on 3/31/03 and in the last month I have been losing noticeable amounts of hair. It is causing me a lot of stress. Any suggestions?
Topic: RE: any march 11th people out there? I would love to hear from you.
Hi: I am Laura Lee Ullrich. I had my open RNY on March 11,2003. I am down 47 # at my last weigh in. I don't weigh myself. I am not losing realy fast, but I have lost many inches (7 off of my bust alone!!!). I started a new walking program 4 weeks ago. I was in the Woman's Day magazine. I now walk 2-3 miles every day (five days a week) and that is really helping. I can eat anything and rarely have problems except dumping occasionally. I think I can eat too much food. I have always been able to eat quite a bit, but my doctor is not worried. I struggle to get in enough protein. It has helped me a great deal to log on to fitlife.com. You can list everything you have eaten that day and it tells you calories, protein and all nutrients. I also went clothes shopping last week end and bought three new outfits. I started at a size 26 and bought 18 and 20. I am anxious to buy clothes in any store and not in the plus size department. Lets keep in touch. I need inspiration as I have no support group where I live here in the boondocks of MOntana.

Topic: RE: Do you think I am progressing ok
Hi Catherine- I am also a slooow loser- I read about all these people who have lost 60 & 70 lbs in 3months. I had surgery on March 17- Went for my 3 month check on June 27. I am down only 46 lbs. I am 5'7" and weighed 267 the day of surgery. I guess I just thought the weight would melt off. I was so hoping to reach 50 in 3 months. I know I should not compare myself to others, but it is hard not to! I started a rigid exercise program about a month ago. I go to the gym 5 times a week. I work out for 40 minutes. Usually 20 on the treadmill and 20 on the eliptical. I just feel like the wieght should come off faster. I can eat anything and I wonder if that is why I am losing so slow. Any suggestions on how to lose quicker would be appreciated!!!
