MARILYN....None of us are failures.....I had open RNY MARCH 26 2003 & HAVE ONLY LOST 55 LBS AS OF JUNE 30... I wasted a month by eating too many carbs in soy meat & tomatoes because a friend had lost weight eating these thing but IT DIDN"T WORK FOR ME!!!!..Like everyone says we are all different....I am so thankful that I feel good & have so much energy but I have to work at my weight loss every day because I too can eat ANYTHING I WANT (T SEEMS) & sometimes I DO JUST THAT!!!! Just keep doing what you are doing & know that our prayers are with you. 445/390/150 long way to go but I WILL GET THERE!!!!!

Marlyin, To answer you question ...no you are not a failure..... It is good to hear stories like yours to let me know im not alone in this. I to have had surgery in March 17, 2003 I am 4 months post-op and have lost 50lbs . Every one else at my doctors office are loosing at a much faster rate. I had a talk with my doctor and was told depending on where your weigh is when you have the surgery is how small you stomach is cut down. He told me he didn't make my stomach as small as others because I didn't have as much weight to loose than they did and I started out at 350lbs. I can still eat a full plate of food with no problems and that scared me. Because I know others that has had the surgery and they can only eat a small amount and are finish. The only thing im not able to eat anything with sugar so that keeps me on the straight and narrow. I too workout 5 day a week at the GYM with a personal trainer and Im still loosing slow(as this is how I feel) but my doctor said that this is the best way to loose so that your skin has a chance to change with your weigh loss. So I said all of that to say.... YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! Just keep your head up and keep doing the right things and you will see a difference. TJ

I had my surgery March 17, 2003. I am 5'4" and was 241 with BMI of 38. On my three month followup I had lost 57lbs. YEAH! It seems things have slowed some this month b/c as of now I my total loss is 65lbs. But my BMI is now 30- just obese! Glad to get to talk to others who are where I am post op with this surgery! Take Care!

You are not a failure. There is no such thing. Everyone loses at different rates and times. You should feel great about the fact that you get out and go to the gym 5 times a week. I can only manage to hit the treadmill 4-5 nights a week and then I don't even stay on it for too long. Most of the people who have lost a lot more weight started out at a lot more than you. It seems like the more you weight, the faster you lose. But at some point eveyone slows down. I make sure to get in my 64 oz of liquid (not all water, I like decaf tea), 60 gram of protein (no drinks because I can't stand them), and somewhere between 600-800 calories. Maybe you are not taking in enough calories. Maybe your body is in shut down because it thinks you are starving it? I seem to lose faster when I actually "cheat" a little and eat some carbs or fats (nuts, animal crackers, chips). I don't eat a lot of them at one time but I also don't plan on spending the rest of my life on a "diet". I had this surgery so I don't have to diet all the time. Keep up the good work and what is ment to be will happen. Keep that chin up and SMILE!!!!!!

Marilyn - YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!!! You are doing fine. Don't compare yourself to others because every one is different. Everyone's body reacts differently and you will not loose at the same rate everyone else is. Just keep doing what you are doing. You may be hitting that dreaded 3-5 month post op plateau. I had mine and it lasted for 3 weeks and then I only lost 5 lbs and now I am at a stand still again. Keep your chin up, hun! You will make it. You can do it! We all know you can! Stay positive and stay focused!

Topic: Am I A WLS Failure???
I question myself and ask ~ Am I a failure with this surgery? I say this because I weighed in at 297lbs which means that I've only lost 3lbs in 28 days since my last weigh-in. I'm only 4 months post-op and have only lost a total of 44.5lbs. I know that I should not compare but sometimes it is so hard not to. So many people have lost between 60-100lbs already and here I am the slow turtle in the race. I exercise 5 days a week at the gym, I drink my water, I take my vitamins and get my protein in daily. What is wrong with me? Why is this surgery not working for me? I have so many questions and yet no answers. I'm sorry that I'm being so ungrateful and is complaining to you all with my "issues" but I'm just venting with frustration. I know that I should be thankful that I made it out alive. I know that I should be thankful that I've not suffered any sickness. I mean, I can eat regular foods and nothing bothers me at all even the foods with natural sugar. I do avoid those bad things that can be so tempting at times but I've truly been a very good girl and have not cheated with no sweets. I don't even eat beef or pork and have not eating them since October 10, 2002 which was when I decided to try to discipline myself before my wls. Okay, I'm going to stop complaing but if there are any praying people out there, please say one little prayer for me right now. THANK YOU
