Topic: 11 months and all is well
I am 11 months out and feel great. I have lost 117 lbs. That is about 10 lbs. more than I had set for my goal weight. I am eating everything that I want. (I do not eat sugar) I think I am one of the few who do not count carbs. I eat protein first but that is the only rule that I have. I make sure that I drink my 64 oz. of water each day. Usually in the form of Fruit 2 o. 11 months ago I was taking 9 pills each day for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pcos, and my kidneys were being to pass protein. Today I am taking one daily vitamin and prevacid every other day for an ulcer I have developed. I also have a small hernia, but it does not cause any problems. (knock on wood) Although I did not come through this surgery with no problems. I am so much healthier than this time last year! I am just greatful that my PCP told me I needed this!

Hi Angi,
I am glad to respond to your post. My nickname is Angie too. Anyway, I finally have an appointment with the chief surgeon at my medical group. I am not sure what that means exactly but that's more than I have had in a year. My primary physician left the group but before she left I was waiting and waiting on a response. Anyway, the information you shared helped. I am not sure if I am approved as I have received nothing in the mail. At any rate let's keep in touch. I know $440 is nothing to sneeze at but in the big scheme of things it is a small percentage of the total cost involved. Take Care, Angie

Hi,I just had my first appt.with the Doc. I have a psych. evaluation on the 11th of March.I have to take a test there to...I hope they don't commit me lol. Then I have to go get the usually test of the cholesteral and such .
What other tests do they usually have you take. They said something about a stress test because I had taken Phen-Phen.They also told me I would have to do a liquid diet for at least a month before surgery.I'm praying they can do it laperscopically. My insurance pays for the surgery but you know there is always red tape...I sure hope it comes thru. They set my test up with the shrink and told me it would be $440.00 up front,so i will have to be reinbursed by my insurance company I pray they will. Well thanks for listening. If anyone has any advice on things I should do before and after surgery I would sure love to here from you. Thanks Angi

Hey Julia, remember to start with, you can't compair you loss with anyone else since we all lose at different rates and times. Now I do have to say I have been having a really hard time this last 2-3 months myself. I have only lost 4 lbs since the beginning of January. I have decided to give up "carbs" such as rice, bread, potato's, & pasta for LENT.
I may not be catholic but it is a good way to get back on track. I made it yesterday without any, and today is going to be good too, I can just tell. Get back to the basic's and you will start losing again. If you can share anything that you therapist suggests, please let me know, I would be willing to try anything.

Good luck Wendy on getting to your goal. I will not make my goal by my anniversay as I still have about 30 lbs to go.
I thought I was the only one who was going to give up "carbs", such as rice, pasta, potato's and such for lent. I'm not catholic but thought this might give me a good incentive for sticking to what I should of been doing from the beginning.
Keep up the good work

Topic: HELP!!!
I had my surgery on March 21, 2003 and have currently lost 87 pounds...however I have not lost anything for about 2 months and find myself falling into my old habits. I am currently seeing a therapist to deal with the issues which lead me to eat and that is helping some. I workout at the YMCA 2-3 times a week for about an hour at a time, am good about drinking my water, try to stay s.f., but the carbs are killing me! Also I can eat anything without really having any big side effects, other than diarehha and gas. I guess I just need to hear from others what they are doing, what they eat in a day and how to get back on the wagon. Thanks everyone! Julia
Topic: 1 Yr. Anniversary Next Month
My one year anniversary is the last day of March. I have a little less than 20 lbs till I meet my doctor's goal for me. I highly doubt that I'll make the goal weight by 3/31, but I'm going to do everything in my power to get as close as I can. Three things I'm doing:
1) 64+ oz of water a day (a challenge for me)
2) work up to the 10K steps at day that I've been working on -- I now walk 1/4 mile to the bathroom at work 3x's a day, whi*****reases my steps by 1.5 miles
3) gave up bread, rice and potatoes for lent
I'll update you on my progress on 4/1/04, which is my one year doctor's appointment.
Have a great day. -- Wendy

Hey Jan,
Wow let me just start by saying you look about 25 years younger!!!! You look great. I also am at 11 months and I too have alot of skin hanging. I think we have been blessed with this weight loss that we forget the most important thing... our health. We all did this to get better and we have done it. I can say way to go cracking that 200 point on the scale, I have not done that yet but I am working on it very hard. I have lost 143 lbs so far and I would like to lose about 65 more lbs. Well anyway I know what will help you out, GO SHOPPING!!!!! Get a facial and a full day at the spa and spend the day taking care of yourself you have earned it!!!!!!!
PS My mother had the surgery and at the age of 65 her skin is starting to come back, Give it time. Just think we did not stretch our skin out over night.... it will come back in time. God willing
