Gayle - First of all, congratulations on your fabulous weight loss. I'm sorry to hear about your possible onset of diabetes. Hopefully, after going to the doctor in a couple of weeks, that the sugar will stabilize and the reading was just a fluke. Did you have the test while fasting? It doesn't look like you eat too many carbs. I'd check with your nutrionist. Your overall intake (amount of food & caloric) is much lower than mine, but you've lost a lot more than I have. Maybe you need to up your protein? Again, check with your nutrionist. Let us know. -- Wendy

Topic: Developed diabetes since surgery
Hey all - I'm almost a year post-op and at my last doctor's appointment - my glucose was 206. They said I need to cut my carbs. A typical day of eating for me is: Protein drink for b'fast - only 5 carbs A fat free yogurt and a graham cracker for lunch Fat free pretzels throughout the day A lean cuisine for dinner - or sometimes a banana with peanut butter. My total caloric intake is about 700 - 800 calories/day. I've lost 153 pounds thus far. I have about 10 more to go - although I'm afraid most of it is in skin. Has anyone else developed diabetes since the surgery - or has anyone heard of anyone that has? It is quite troubling to me - and I have a followup appointment in a couple of weeks. I'm just trying to be prepared with the right questions. Thanks for your response!

Marilyn, I have my days about being depressed about the slow weight loss. I want to tell you this is going to work. We have got to learn to be patient. I am a slow loser also. My starting weight was 389 pounds and on my high day I have lost 103 pounds but on my low day it has been 96 pounds. I will be a year out on March 7th and right now I am just glad to have done what I have done with this surgery. I feel better, I look better, I feel good about myself and my self esteem is getting higher and higher. The most important thing is that God brought me thru this and I have not had any major complications. Keep doing what you know will work and we will get there. "We can"endure 'til the end! God Bless You.

Topic: 11 Months Post-Op TODAY
Hi Everyone, Well today I'm 11 months post-op and weighed in at 263lbs. So this means that I've lost 78lbs since my WLS (3/27/03) but an overall total of 90lbs from my highest weight of 353lbs. I'm losing lots of inches and have now gone from a size 30/32 to a size 22 and now all of my 24's are very big on me. Though I'm a slow loser, I still feel so blessed that I am losing and with NO complications. I'm going back home to Chicago next month for a short vacation to see my family and we'll see if they can see the difference. Sometimes I do get depressed because I'm so slow but I truly feel great and I look very healthy. I guess as the old saying goes "the slow turtle will win the race in the end." Many Blessings, Marilyn Lexington, KY 341/263/175 3/27/03 (-78lbs)
