Hi Everyone- I had my surgery on 3.23.01. Started at 353 lbs. Lost 130 lbs by 1.5 yrs. post., then regained 25 lbs. and went for a revision. I'm slowly getting near goal. What a long jouney mine has been! Also, my Hubby saw my results and decided to have the surgery too on 6.10.02. Amy

Your story is nearly the same as mine. I had my original RNY on 3/30/01. I started at 338 lbs and lost about 130 pounds by 1.5 years. I had my revision on 6/30/03 and I hope to reach my goal of 150 lbs eventually.

We must live the same life - my weight loss stopped at -130 about 1.5 years in. I got so depressed about it that in frustration, I gave up and jumped off the wagon. I'm still trying to find my way back as I have gained almost 30 lbs back. I have thought about a revision but needed some feedback first - what does it entail? Please let me know. Great Big Hugs. Thanks, and god bless us all...

Janine- In my case it was that the original surgeon didn't make my pouch small enough to start with and that my Roux limb was only 75 cm. The original surgery was performed lap and the surgeon couldn't *really* see behind to the back of the pouch. Turns out that there was a big hunk that was missed and left intact. During the revision, I had 6-8 ounces removed from my pouch letting me with a 2-3 ounce pouch. The revision also involved lengthening of the Roux limb from 75 cm to 175 cm. This causes more malabsorbtion, so less calories are absorbed. I have to be more careful though, because I also absorb less vitamins and nutrients. Since the revision I have become severely anemic and B-12 levels are very difficult to maintain. I have to take an injection twice a month. I did take off 65 lbs. as a result of the revision, so I'm half the weight I was when I started and very happy being here. Tomorrow is my three year anniversary and I'm going to go sky diving!

MY ORIGINAL SURGERY WAS ALSO ON 03/23/2001. I WEIGHED CLOSE TO 400 POUNDS. I LOST DOWN TO 150 BY 2 YEARS. IN 2003 I FOUND I WAS EATING MORE AND NOT FEELING FULL, I WAS STILL HUNGRY. I WAS ALSO DEALING WITH MANY FAMILY FIRES, THE MOST SERIOUS BEING THE STROKE AND DEATH OF MY FATHER. KEPT PUTTING OFF DEALING WITH IT...WHEN I PUT THE SIZE 12S AWAY I WAS OK...THE 14S I WINCED A BIT BUT WHEN THE 16S WENT AND THE DEPRESSION HIT BIG AND I REALIZED MY TYPE II DIABETES WAS REARING ITS UGLY HEAD, I CONTACTED MY SURGEON. WHEN I WENT FOR MY 3 YEAR CHECK UP, HE ORDERED AN UPPER GI, TELLING ME THAT GENERALLY BEING ABLE TO SUDDENLY EAT MORE MEANS THE STAPLE LINE HAS BROKEN DOWN. THE UPPPER GI SHOWED THE STAPLE LINE WAS BLOWN OUT. I HAD GAINED BACK TO 277 POUNDS. I HAD MY REVISION DONE MAY 7 HAVE DROPPED 35 POUNDS ALREADY AND AM FEELING GOOD ABOUT HAVING STOPPED THE MADNESS BEFORE ALL WAS REGAINED. I HAVE HAD PEOPLE ASK ME OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS WHETHER I WOULD DO IT AGAIN - WELL I KNOW THE ANSWER NOW - YES I WOULD....

I had the wls surgery in 2001. I have gained about 20 pounds back. How would I go about getting a revision and could you tell me exactly what that is? Thanks.

I had my original RYN on 3-30-01 at 323 lbs. in a size 28 and got down to 129 in a size 4 at my 2 yr mark and a baby later (got pregnant 9 mos post-op). I am now 5 yrs post-op and fluctuate between 160 and 170 lbs. and in a size 10/12 (ewww). I liked being 135 lbs. I eat much more than I used to and I can eat just about anything, except spicy foods. Would I even qualify for a revision this far down the road? I'd like to know more about what a revision entales. My RYN was open and pure hell for 1 month. I'd hate to go thru that again. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP! Cindi http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/profile.php?N=B980367485&NoStatic=1

Just checking in to see if you ever had a revision.  I am back here for weight gain after the revision I had.  Never thought this would happen to me but I maintained for 11 years and then in a year and a half I put on 50 lbs.  Ugh.
