I had my surgery Feb. 1st and was picked up to go home today this morning. My surgeon said everything went well and I'm recovering fine. He expects me to do better each day and told me to come to see him this weekend, on call at the other hospital locally, if I don't. Karen, one of the great nurses who looked after me and others in the Short Stay Surgical Ward, told me if I felt any leg pain or shortness or breath to phone 911. Before I was released one of the dieticians came to see me and gave me lots of dietary info and I have an appointment with the dietician who specializes in this this Monday.

As much as I felt I prepared information-wise, reading these boards and others, buying protein and special vitamins and stuff nothing can compare to waking up with numerous taped up openings in your belly and that little bit of pain. Thank God for this surgery though and I'm sure as I begin feeling better each day and, naturally, as the weight comes off I'll begin to perk up again.

Thanks for listening.

congratulations! Sounds like you have had a great experience so far. I worry about that a scootch too...I have so much head knowledge about what it's supposed to be like, how I am supposed to feel, what I am supposed to eat, drink, do, but until I am there it's kinda abstract. Reality will no doubt be different still.

I have family who lives north of you on the island, what a beautiful place to live.

Dare to believe that this time will be different. You can succeed this time.

Wow, that's pretty cool of you having family living here on the island.  Such a small world isn't it?

I was feeling a bit down when I posted my message above and I'm told it's not unusual to cry at some point after general anaesthesic.  A friend had a major crying jag once she got home from one of her surgeries (non-WLS).  I'd never had that experience before but it happened after I got home and I got a little teary today, too.

Reality is different but it's good!  One thing that surprised me though is not being able to drive.  I suppose it has to do with the internal healing necessary and maybe if you're still on pain meds but it took me by surprise.

Dont worry about crying jags, dont forget you have had general anesthesia as well you are losing weight so your hormones are dropping with the weight.  Your body is changing and as that happens so do our hormones.  We all know just how much fun that is.

Go  with the flow - take care of you and enjoy the time to recover and relearn how to be healthy

Thank you, Susan.  I hadn't even thought of hormones playing a part.  It really does feel good to be relearning how to eat properly and taking time for exercise and fluids, etc.  A brand new start!

Best wishes for an uneventful surgery and a smooth, comfortable recovery.
