Topic: RE: 2 weeks out and not prepared...
My RNY is Feb 25 & I started my 2 wk liver red. diet  two days ago-- I have tried quite a few of the protien shakes already as advised from people on here (to try them & see what you like)-- so even before I had to do the pre-op diet I started trying different ones once a day for breakfast.  Here is what I have found:
Unjury-  I ordered these online & found the taste to be very good- I ordered chocolate, unflavored and chicken soup plus a few sample packs of strawberry, etc.  So far I like them all EXCEPT I dont seem to know what to do with the unflavored....I tried adding to SF pudding and it made it turn to a gross liquid & had to throw it out.  But the others are great- I like the strawberry mixed into a Crystal light lemonade- makes it taste similar to strawberry jello.  I eat the chicken soup flavor every evening as my last shake of the day- tastes like chicken boullion.

Bariatric Fusion-  These are sold online as well, but they were actually developed by my surgeon's office and they sell them there as well.  I have tried the following:
Cappacino:  Thought this would help my coffee fix.....and thought it was odd that the guy at Synergy Bariatrics recommend I try the sample packs instead of buying a tub. Well, thank God I listened to him.. That is the grossest smell & taste I have ever tried..UGH! couldnt take more than one taste and chucked it. There is nothing remotely cappacino about this stuff- I dont recommend it!
Chocolate- Not bad, but hard to mix up & not as good tasting as Unjury to me. However, compared to the 20 g of protien in Unjury, this has 27 g of protien which is a big plus.
I have a sample pack of the unflavored, but havent had a chance to try it yet.

GNC Whey Isolate Protien-  A friend of mine uses these every morning (not a bariatric surgery pt) and told me they taste great.  Got them yesterday.  28 grams of protien & spoke at length with 2 people at GNC on different visits there- both recommended it for WLS patients and the lady yesterday had RNY seven years ago (she looks great by the way!) Got the chocolate AND the strawberry on a buy one get one 50% off deal.  Also bought 2 of their shakers which have a little wisk like ball in them that works like MAGIC to blend the protien shakes in seconds!
Strawberry- Yummy- had it in the crystal light lemonade like I did with Unjury and it was actually even better than Unjury was! A bit less strong tasting and made the drink very refreshing!
Haven't tried the Chocolate yet as I have an Unjury and Bariatric Fusion to use up first, but think it will be good as that is what my friend uses & recommended.

Isopure- I have bought 2 bottles of the clear Isopure protien drinks.  Havent tried either although at GNC they told me to be sure it is REALLY COLD as that helps with the slight aftertaste you can get from the protien.  they are 40 g of protien in a 20 oz bottle and very expensive! Since they are clear liquids, I am kind of saving them for when I get home....but may try one to see how they taste pre-op.

I know our tastes apparently change after surgery, and I am hoping I will still tolerate and like the ones I have here after surg as well.

I know that at GNC they told me the Whey Isolate Protien (which is what is in all 3 above) is the easiest to digest and is what WLS patients need.
Hope this helps some!

Good luck to you!  I am scheduled in 2 weeks as well- (3 days after yours) so we will be at the same stages....
I agree, the liquid diet pre-op is a killer, but I have lost 5 lbs on it in 3 days!

My surgeon's office does a 2 week liquid diet to reduce the glycogen stores in the liver and reduce the liver size- makes the surgery easier, esp if it is laproscopic.  I just started mine 2 days ago and day 1 was tough!  Today is day 3 and not too bad ....especially since I have lost 5 lbs since I started!  But at times, I am starving and everything seems to be about food! Cant stand watching TV as it seems every commercial has something yummy on it!

Wow... that's great that you got to go home so soon.  I would have rested so much better at home.  My soreness has decreased too... I am not on any pain meds anymore.  Good luck with getting your drain removed... I'm sure it will make you feel so much better :)

Welcome!  I too am on the 18th.  I had my PAT"s today and had to do a 10 diet of 4 protein shakes a day  plus veggies, clear broth etc.   I crave food.!  Good luck next week.

Call you PCP ASAP explain and see if they will call in a script for the drops. You need to be on them for 24 hrs. and are no longer contagious.

Congrats on your surgery date.  My surgery is the 16th and I'm so excited!  My doctor put me on a 1 week liquid diet to shrink the liver.  I hope all goes well with your surgery.  It is almost here!

At least it sure looks like she does and my surgery is 4 days away!!  I cannot get it!  I am just so stressed I am going to get it and the surgery will be postponed and I will have to start all over again.  She is not hurting but it doesn't look good!  Please pray it is not pink eye and at the very least that I will not get it!
