Topic: RE: I'm home- RNY 2/8/10
Hi - I had surgery on 2/9 as well. I am doing great with the clear fluids but it is getting a bit boring! Sleeping gets easier every night and I am normally a stomach sleeper. Today is the first time I have experienced the left shoulder pain. I notice it diminishes when I walk around. I am nervous though about moving to the next level of the diet (full liquids). I hope I am okay with the skim milk and shakes. I have been using Bariatrix Essentials and I think they are pretty good. I'm glad we found other with such close sugery dates and positive outlooks. Some of the not so good stories make me a bit scared :)
Take care all

Topic: RE: Congrats to those having surgery this week
Thank you kindly. I wasn't that excited at first but the more come here and share with others and hear from others who are having surgery around the same time, the more excited I get.
Blessings and health to us all

Topic: RE: Protein Shakes...
Hey there. I have surgery on the 17th and I am also feeling overwhelmed by all the stuff I have to buy to get ready (anyone hear about why purchasing a pair of kitchen tongs is good for hygiene?). But my dietician did provide some guidelines for protein shakes and I thought I'd just share to give you an idea
Whey protein is the best because its best used by the body. The drink can be premade or powder just as long as the following are followed:
20 gm of protein per drink (can include the protein in the milk- if you use it)
Less than 200 cals per drink (NOT per scoop but the whole drink including the base liquid)
Less than 5 gm of fat per drink
Less than 5 gm of sugar (not total carbs) per drink
Hope that made sense. Good luck to ya.

I agree with Ruxanby. Call your doc asap and quarantine your little darling . She'll thank you later. I had a sick little girl myself last week and was really nervous about getting whatever she had. I medicated her, supplemented her (and myself) and loved her at arm's length. She cleared right up and I never caught her cold, thank God. Good luck.
Topic: RE: What is your ultimate Goal??
Another 5 foot 7 incher here- 180 was a very good time for me too, as I recall (sooooo very long ago). I was walking daily and lifting lady sized weights at the gym. I was told on several ocassions that I had a nice body- by strangers. So even though I'm going for 160, I might be satisfied with 180 when I get there. Good luck to ya!

350 current weight 5'7"
160 my goal weight
230-192 doctor's estimation of what I we can reasonably expect to lose (60% -80%) of excess weight
The doctor gave no specific requirement, however. My thoughts are that some of that extra weight will be extra skin that must be removed. Additionally, I plan on lifting weights again( muscle weighs more that fat) so as long as I look good in my clothes and I'm healthly, I'm happy.

Hi there. Congratulations on your surgery as well. I'm having surgery on the 17th and I am concerned with getting comfortable. Could you elaborate on why sleeping is such a pain and do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much.

Congrats and wish you continued health in your recovery process. Someone below mentioned issues with sleeping. I assumed that she meant she was uncomfortable. How has it been with you?
Topic: Introduction.
Hey all. I am mellyw and I am having surgery on the 17th like most of you-( yeah us!). This has been a long time coming as I having been working on this since 2001 and seriously over the last 4 years. I had to change surgeons which I am extremely happy about because my last surgeon and the one I have now are like night and day. I am not nervous but I'm not super excited yet either.
You see, with my last surgeon my surgery was cancelled twice just hours before surgery. The first time it was for a pretty legit reason but the second time the Dr's. reason seemed a little iffy and it didn't help that just hours later he was away on vacation.
Said all that to say that I'm a little gun shy -people. But my current very kind comptetant and patient surgeon said that he reviews everything way ahead of time (like 2 weeks before at our final pre-op appt)so there are few surprises and that he wouldn;t cancel surgery for something like a little anemia ( and the previous doctor did say I was "a little anemic" as he packed his bags for vacation).
So forgive me if I sound a little negative but I want to be as honest as I can because someone might be in the same boat as I was and am. WHew! So here we all go . . . .
