Topic: RE: Anyone have a surgery date
My date is currently February 23 -- a week from tomorrow! My pre-surgery diet consists of minimal carbs to help the liver to shrink and lots of protein. The day before I have nothing but clear liquids. I've already stocked up on protein shakes and chicken broth as well as fish and chicken in the freezer for when I get to solid foods. I've given away all the snacks, breads and crackers and other hi-carb foods.

I've got my fingers crossed that it all goes as scheduled. I was originally supposed to have the surgery in November but the doctor discovered I have a large hiatal hernia so he wanted to do an endoscopy first. When he did he found a lot of inflamation that had to be treated before he could do the surgery. He's going to repair the hernia first and then put the band on. Since it's essentially two surgeries at one time he said I may have to stay overnight which is fine by me. I live alone so it would be nice to be taken care of for one day. If he sends me home a friend has offered to come over and stay overnight the first night.

I getting excited. This is truly a life-changing event. At 63 years old I feel like I'm starting a new life!

Wish me luck.

I am scheduled the same day (tomorrow) so I kinda know what you are feeling. The good news is this:
You are going to be fine. You will have gassy pains that will be hanging around post op ( and from what I understand that is going to suck) . You will be tired and loopy from the surgery...but you will be fine. Sore...yep good chance of that as well...but you are going to be fine.

I am kinda hanging my hat on the logic...and honestly...this place isn't where you want to spend time looking thru posts of all the "what ifs" and every wild, wacky, and and odd thing that has ever happened in the history of WLS.

You know why you took this path for WLS , you did your homework , you did your pre surg tests...now let the experts do their thing tomorrow because you've got the rest of your life to work this tool to meet your goals.

Go get 'em!!!

Ok so I am freaking out....I am not sure because I am not normally like this but I am a emotional wreck!  I am curious is anyone else has felt this way.  I am crying and  irritated and not at all like myself.  I am not sure what my problem is.  Is this normal?  Oh what is my problem?  I keep starting to feel better and then some stupid person will say something negative about how I could die and all and then I am a wreck again....  Someone please tell me if I am alone in this?
Thanks!

This was the best day of my life because me waiting to live my life is over with and I'm planning all sorts of things from a photo shoot once the weight has pleateau to my Six Flags Re-Battle( I couln't fit in the seats at first) but the PAIN of it was horrible thank God for the Morphine Pump it was nothing what I expected which was it to not be bad since everyone says my pain wasn't that bad so expected mine to be a breeeze  with mild soreness  maybe my tolerance is too low but that **** hurted like hell  I have soreness now and my drain tube hurts and these staples itch like crazy Yet I don't regret any of it and my fluids is staying down and I'm at peace with it still. How was your pain OH?

Topic: RE: Protein Shakes...
I started my 2 week pre-op liquid diet on Saturday the 13th. It sucks.. but I am working though it.. my doctor gave me a list of some protien shakes I can make... so far the I have tried two.. I bought some Whey Protein from Walmart (cookies and Creme) mixed it with milk.. and almost threw up when I drank it.. it is the nastiest .. yuucckk!! The other one I have tried and like (a little) is called fortified milk.. and it is basically 1 quart fat free milk, 1 1/3 cup powdered milk.. mix that together and chill in the fridge overnight.. then take one package of the Carnation Instant breakfast (no sugar) and mix with 8 oz of your mixture and drink it. It has about 21 grams of protien. Which my surgeon says is good if you drink 3 of them a day..

Tommorrow is my 3rd day on liquids.. I hear after the 3rd day it's not soo bad.. and I HOPE thats true... I have had a constant headache and have never heard my stomach growl as much as I have in the past two days... but it will all be worth it in the end.

My surgery is scheduled for the 25th.. I can't wait.
