I had surgery 3 years ago and my husband, Mike had surgery with Dr. Smith last Monday. I saw you were in Fargo. He is having a really hard time with head hunger. Anything you are doing to help this or are you not having that issue?

Hey Frank,
The gas was the most unbearable part for me to! Also recognizing what in the world all the feelings I had in my pouch and belly were caused by. For the first two weeks I had to experiment with everything and will admit that I had a hard time getting any protein in because it just plan hurt to drink. The one thing I found was for the first two weeks warm felt the best. It helped soothe my pouch and move the gas. Colds cause me immense pain! I am about four weeks out and once the drain was removed it was amazing! I was feeling back to normal almost instantly. I could bend with no pain at all. The other thing early out that caused me pain and gas was any protein supplement with milk products. They made me so gassy! But I was a little lactose intolerant prior to the surgery. This past week I have been fine with them though they still cause a little gas but not the pain. Hope that helps.

I am almost 4 weeks out and am down 22 postop and about 45 total if you include weightloss from presurgery diet. I did have a weight gain about from 2-3 weeks out of about 5 lbs. But I was constipated and not getting my protein in. This week I started focusing on protein and dropped that 5lbs within 3 days. Protein protein protein! I am really trying to not be consumed about my weightloss and just focus on doing what I should. I know it will come!

Gas is definitely the worst part of this entire experience!! My doc ok'd the gas-x strips, and they seemed to help a little, but what helped the most was laying in bed and rolling from side to side every few minutes, and if you are sleepy, lay on your back with your knees up in the air...gives a little room for the gas to go away...now I am 3 weeks out and still have that weird gas pain in my upper back from where they pumped my abdomen up with co2...but it isn't as bad as it used to be..every day it gets better and better. Best wishes!!

I actually had a weight gain immediately after the surgery because of swelling but I had lost 7 pounds in the 2 weeks leading up to the surgery from the lo-carb diet my doc had me on. Once i have some more healing and the swelling goes away I'm confident the weight loss will resume. Don't be impatient. We didn't gain all this weight overnight and we can't expcect to lose it all overnight. I've lost weight quickly in the past and always gained it back. I'd rather lose it slowly and have it STAY off!

Congrats to all. I feel the same way. I feel GREAT. In fact I had surgery i week ago today and I am going back to work on Monday. Today I re-arranged the kitchen cabinets, and pantry, and hung new curtains. As you can tell I am getting bored. I would have went back today but it is snowing so I figured a couple more days would work.
Good luck to everyone.
