New here... Surgery date 2/18/10
Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I am less than a week away from having my surgery and I am so excited! I am curious about one thing... why do I see that some of you have to go on a 2 week or 1 week liquid diet? I am curious because my doctor is only putting me on a 2 day pre op liquid diet.
My surgeon's office does a 2 week liquid diet to reduce the glycogen stores in the liver and reduce the liver size- makes the surgery easier, esp if it is laproscopic. I just started mine 2 days ago and day 1 was tough! Today is day 3 and not too bad ....especially since I have lost 5 lbs since I started! But at times, I am starving and everything seems to be about food! Cant stand watching TV as it seems every commercial has something yummy on it!
I am ready mentally since I have been wanting this surgery for 10 yrs now... but I go to a pre-op class on Tues and start my clear liquids that day as well by then I know I will be ready I'm just waiting for my mom to fly out here... she will be staying with me until I am able to lift my 10 month old again plus she is going to start the process of surgery for the bypass (she had the lap band but it is not working well for her). I am so anxious and glad time is passing fast!
Hey there. My surgeon actually has a dietician who wants us all to start dieting as soon as we get cleared for surgery, even if that date is months away as mine was. The surgeon asked that I do a liquid diet every other wee****il 2 weeks before surgery and then to do a only the 2 week liquid. It was extremely hard to keep all that up but the doctor said he understood and that he only wanted me to do my best. So I have lost about 10 lbs of fat (this was after losing about 15lbs of what I knew was jus****er).
My surgery date is the 18th as well. My doctor asked me to go on a low carb diet for about a week before surgery then a clear liquid diet which I have now been on for two days. It isn't as bad as I thought it would be...I think I am just ready to get the show on the road.
Good luck tomorrow and keep us posted on your progress.
