Yes what ever you do follow your doctors orders!!! Everyone is different, I just went today for my last appt. with the surgeon and I was sure I would have to be on the all liquid, but because I had lost 14 pounds on my own I do not have to go on the all liquid until 48 hours before. But again, I say follow your doctors orders!!!! Good luck!
I too am on a pre op protein diet. I started a week ago. I am using protein drink for two meals and then for the third I can have a low cal meal with chicken/vegetables.
My doctor explained to me that everyone is different. Even though I have lost a lot of weight to get ready for the surgery he said he still needed more "room" to move around to make the surgery easier on him and me.
The other thing is that I sampled at lease 10 protein drinks before I finally selected "Monster Milk" in chocolate. I can drink it fairly easy. It has a high protein count so you do not have to drink as much. I really liked that. I learned also that I must keep my meal times on a good schedule so that I have enough protein at all times. If I don't I feel light headed and feel nauseas (spelling????)
My surgery is on Feb 17th! Yippeeee!
Good luck to you on your surgery

I am on the pre op protein diet and when i eat at night i feel like i have to throw up .. it makes no difference what i eat .. my best meal is baked brown rice with chicken in the oven .. i drink plenty of water! my surgery is on the 22nd ... i just pray they dont delay ... you know how things happen ... im glad that i got to read about everybody else on this diet that protein shake is nasty .. they asked me to drink 1 cup of lactose free or skim milk plus with 1 scoop of the powder for breakfast and lunch .. then a mid afternoon snack of fruits and fat free yogurt and the meal at night ...
