Wow, Thank you for sharing with me - Mary we have so many things very similar. I too was going to have the lap band until  I did the research on it. Dr. said I wasn't really as heavy as people who generally get RNY done. (I'm 5'2" and 208 and I'm in my 50's) But I too have heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and arthritis in my family. So there is significant risk of me developing any of these and more. I think he submitted to the insurance as a preventative measure and they approved it.
My husband and I used to be very active and I want to return to that lifestyle also.
Yes my avatar is my pom, her name is Chloe she is the sweetest lil' pal I could ever have. Is Lily the orange color too?

We have our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter living with us right now.  I am in heaven with my granddaughter.  Her name is Evelyn, we call her Evie.  What church do you go to?  What are bierocks? 600 of anything is a lot!   I just got home from church also, we go to Bridgeway Christian Church.  Lately my knees have really been bothering me, I too will be glad when I take some of the weight off.  I know it will help.  Do you have your bags packed for the hospital yet?  Is it too soon or am I just getting excited.  Well better go and spend some time with my hubbie.  Talk to you soon, Mary

Hi Mary,
Oh, how nice to have your granddaughter right with you! That is special.  Is she the 4yr.old or the 2 yr. old?
We go to Greeley First Assembly of God.... bierrocks are cabbage buns. (Cabbage, meat and onions in a bread roll.) They have lots of names. The finally count was 676! But we are making a great profit on them, so lots of little girls will get to go to camp this summer.
I am planning this coming weekend to pack my bag, load my Ipod with my music I want, gather anything I'm missing etc.. I am excited and yet at times scared! I see my Surgeon tomorrow. Wow, what are we now 10 days?!  10 days this is the count down!
later,
Cheryl

Hi Are you with Kaiser?  I was going to have my surgery in Richmond, and I was just getting ready to schedule and the company I worked for folded.  So this journey has been going on for 2 1/2 years!  I then had United Healthcare Pacificare, my surgery was authorized just before the first of this year and the company I am working for changed our benefits,  now I have Health Net, and they also authorized it!  So I still can't believe this is really going to happen.  I was going to have lap band.  I had totally researched it, and that was the sugery for me.  For about 10 years off and on, I have had issues with swallowing and food getting stuck in my esophogus.  As usually I did not go to the MD about it.  This got worse the past year, sometimes when I was eating I would take one small bite and that was it.  I could not even swallow my saliva.  I had an appt with my bariatric surgeon so I mentioned this to him.  I had to go for quite a few tests and they found out I had a stricture in my esophogus and a hiatal hernia.  So I went to have a procedure done where they break up the stricture under twilight sleep.  It was a miracle!  Now I take something everyday for acid reflux, which is what caused the problem, acid burning my esophogus and then scar tissue forming.  Then the gastrinterologist and Dr. Patching said it would be better if I had the RNY instead of lap band.  The lap band is placed right below your esophogus.  Wow, I have never wrote the word esophogus so many times, I don't even know if I'm spelling it right  Anywho, I  did not really need to lose any weight either.  I am 5"9' and starting weight was 279lbs.  I am 274 right now.  Dr. told me if I lost too much I would not qualify for the surgery.  It is mostly prventative for me also.  I have low thyroid, acid reflux, and a terrible family history of cancer, heart attack, high BP.  I lost to brothers to heart attack at 28 and 46.  My vitamins are from Bariatric Advantage and are chewable, they are not too bad.  I will be praying that your surgery goes well and recover quickly.  Wow did I tell you TMI?    Have a great day!  Mary

Hi.  Yes I am with Kaiser.  My surgery will be done in South San Francisco.  The process has taken me more than a year even without complications of medical coverage.  I am so happy that your finally there.

I just cannot believe how thrilled you must be to have your obstruction removed.  Thank goodness you told your surgeon about it.

I have a few medical issues and I also have diabetes and heart disease in my family.  So some of it is definately for preventative.  I have chronic back pain which I am really really hoping it helps.

Let me know how your surgery goes.  I keep you in my prayers.

I finally fixed my ticker tracker thing!
