surgery date 2/17/10 RNY
I am having my surgery done at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO..... my vitamins came yesterday. So I had to try them out - eek. Hope I can "stomach" them after the surgery.
I loook forward to sharing our experiences. Do tell me about yours too!

Hi Cheryl, I was going to have lap band. I had totally researched it, and that was the sugery for me. For about 10 years off and on, I have had issues with swallowing and food getting stuck in my esophogus. As usually I did not go to the MD about it. This got worse the past year, sometimes when I was eating I would take one small bite and that was it. I could not even swallow my saliva. I had an appt with my bariatric surgeon so I mentioned this to him. I had to go for quite a few tests and they found out I had a stricture in my esophogus and a hiatal hernia. So I went to have a procedure done where they break up the stricture under twilight sleep. It was a miracle! Now I take something everyday for acid reflux, which is what caused the problem, acid burning my esophogus and then scar tissue forming. Then the gastrinterologist and Dr. Patching said it would be better if I had the RNY instead of lap band. The lap band is placed right below your esophogus. Wow, I have never wrote the word esophogus so many times, I don't even know if I'm spelling it right Anywho, I did not really need to lose any weight either. I am 5"9' and starting weight was 279lbs. I am 274 right now. Dr. told me if I lost too much I would not qualify for the surgery. It is mostly prventative for me also. I have low thyroid, acid reflux, and a terrible family history of cancer, heart attack, high BP. I lost to brothers to heart attack at 28 and 46. My vitamins are from Bariatric Advantage and are chewable, they are not too bad. I will be praying that your surgery goes well and recover quickly. Wow did I tell you TMI? Have a great day! Mary
Thanks for the welcome! I am having the sleeve surgery. After tons of research and meeting with my surgeon twice we have decided this is the best one for me. I was originally going to do the lab band but decided I could not live with the port. Just my personal thing. I think everyone can be successful no matter which surgery they select as long as they have the right attitude.
The vitamins are difficult for me. My doc had me starting them with my protein diet drinks. It is just a lot consume. I have always been a minalmalist when it comes to pills. Just take exactly what is necessary. Guess I will get used to them just fine.
I have actually lost from the 252 pounds on my ticker another 30 pounds in order to do the surgery. I am 222. That in itself was a great accomplishment for me. I have had family ask me why I am having the surgery since obviously I can lose weight....Well just like everyone else I can lose weight but cannot keep it off.
I know our journey will go well.
