How's that pre-op weight loss coming along?

My sleeve is scheduled for the 8th of Feb.  My surgeon told me to lose 10-15lbs before surgery, said a good liquid/protein diet would do it about 2 weeks before surgery.  I've gone from 249 to 237...but in that time, I got a new scale that likes me better and I think it's actually 249 to 239.  The liquid/protein diet hasn't started yet.  That 10 lbs was actually me counting calories.  I cooked my husband a thousand and one meal options about a week ago and froze everything.

The protein shakes will give me 30 grams of protein and 255 calories per meal.

How is everyone else doing?

I only have to do the liquid diet for 4 days prior to my surgery which is 2/1.  I have lost weight since I started the process on my own but I did try a couple of days on the liquid diet to see how it was going to be and I did okay...

Good luck!

=c) I'm so nervous that they'll get in there and determine that enough weight wasn't lost for my liver that they'll refuse to go through with it.

I'm envious of you that  you only have to do the 4 day prior liquid diet.  Did they give you any kind of weight goal prior?

I'm excited for you to have your sleeve.  That would have been the first choice for both my husband and I but our insurance company doesn't cover it.  It is a bummer that you have to travel half-way across the country but we think Dr. Trotter is worth it and the facility where he does his surgeries is wonderful.  Will you have family members here with you?

Thank you!  I totally agree about Dr. Trotter...he's completely worth it.  Your husband said the hospital is like a 4 star hotel.  My husband will be joining me and I'm glad the facility will be nice because I'll be zonked out most of the time and I'd hate for him to be bored.

How much weight did you lose before you had your surgery?

Hi there I have my surgery scheduled on Feb 22 and I havent lost a pound.  In fact Im pretty sure I've gained a couple.  I am worried like you that the surgeon will delay my surgery.  Its actually bugged me that my surgeon in the beginning of this journey said the requirement was a 10% weight loss but he hasnt said nothing about that since.  I'm going to start a protein diet starting Sunday.  Im hopeing I could lose some weight.

Good luck to you.  Looking forward to hear about your progress.

10% of starting is about 24.5 lbs...2 weeks to go and I've only gone from 248 to 235.  Protein seems to work best for me but I'm also watching the calories.  Have you brought up the weight loss to him?

No I haven't brought it up.  I'm actually scared of the rejection.  I read in his website that if you werent able to lose weight that they would work with you.  I recieved the pre-op package in the mail a few days ago and read it over and over again and it didnt say anything.  I'm going to call the office and let them know.  I felt like its been forever to get this approved and now Im so close and so scared of being turned away.  I'll let you know what they have to say.

Hello,

I am going to Bluepoint surgical group in VA. Dr. Halmi and Dr. Tran are my Dr/surgians. I am required to do a two week optifast diet befor surgery. My surgery date is February 23. On Feb 8 I start the diet. They did not give me a weight loss number just tha I have to loss to decrease the size of my liver prior to surgery. They do have optifast or something like it on line at amazon.com. Well good luck and best wishes with your surgeries.

Woot woot!  231lbs...not starving...but still craving everything.  I know it sounds horrible but I hope everyone else struggles during this time.  My surgeons nurse said that this is going to be the hardest part of surgery...and she said that the first 10 lbs is coming directly out of the liver.  AND she said that my surgeon has done the sleeve on two other patients that lost NO weight before surgery and although it was difficult, he did it without any problems.  I feel a thousand times better than I did before.
