OK, February peeps!

Just got my February 2, 2010 surgery date, and am already getting a little nervous. Wonder if it's a good or a bad thing to have three months to "get ready"? My support group leader says "good thing" but I bet I'm going to be obsessing and get nervous.

Anyone else working this far ahead? I decided to schedule surgery around my performance committments... singing with the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton, and leading the group for a run-out concert so wanted to not miss any rehearsals. Not taking any committments for February, thank you!!

How 'bout it? Have you scheduled a Feb date already? Why?

Hi

I'm due to go in on February the 24th. I had been hoping for the 4th so I could be in and out before my son and husbands birthdays also Valentines day but my Dr only does his WLS for gastric sleeves once a month. His wife is also due a baby in the middle of Feb so there has been some working around that for him. I have been planning this for awhile and I'm happy I still have the 3+ months to slowly get everything ready so when it comes to the 1st of Feb everything that I need to start my shakes for 3weeks and all of the little stuff for afterwards is all there waiting for me and hopefully it will let me be more calm before I go in. I'm already getting nervous and obsessing over things so calm before hand might be a dream but here's hoping.

Also the time will fly by really once you break it down,

Best wishes

Hi Chrystale, glad to have some company here on the February dates board.

Wow, I thought our doctor was strict with two weeks of liquids only... yours requires three! Some folks only have to do a couple days!! I guess it's good to get used to changes in diet before the surgery, as there sure are a lot of changes afterwards.

I don't know how calm I'll ever be before the surgery, it's such a major deal. Voluntary major surgery! Usually, in an emergency you don't have time to get over-nervous as surgery happens quickly and is often unavoidable. (I'm lucky to have never had surgery, but I've held my wife's hand through several emergency surgery decision points.) This one, I'm asking for! So... of course... I regularly say to myself "wait, never mind, I'm not going to do this." Then I calm down and remind myself I've been researching this for literally years... and that after all my reading I've firmly decided this is the best course for my future health. I want to reduce or eliminate my diabetes, sleep apnea, and hip and leg pain. I want to fit in "normal" chairs, restaurant booths, cars... and clothes!

I hear you about "obsessing" over things. Hard not to, isn't it? And I'm sure no matter how much planning we do there will be something we'll wish we did differently.    Well... it's all for the best. We have to move forward! Glad to have your company on the journey.

Wishing you well,

Greg

Hi

My Dr over here does only ask for the 2 weeks aswell but I have some liver damage from my pregnancies and we want to get it as good as we can before the op. Dr Mosse has no problems with stopping the WLS and closing someone up if their liver doesn't look to good and we don't get our money back if he does.

Yes I know the panic your talking about with choosing to have this done. I had my gallbladder removed years ago but I had only 1 day to know that I was getting it done compared to months. I too keep going to change my mind ( all of the things I could do with that money LOL, scared out of my wits at times) but I need this surgery for my health and to be here for my children.  I have researched heaps for years and know that deep down that if I don't I won't be here for to much longer. I see what my mother-in-law is going through and I don't want that to be me.

To be able to live a normal life  is what I keep reminding myself.

Best wishes

I have my surgery scheduled for February 1st!  I am so excited but wi**** was scheduled for tomorrow!  I actually chose the date because I have young children and didn't want to spoil the holidays for them.  I also have to complete a 4 week presurgery diet to shrink the liver and up protein levels before surgery.  Congrads to everyone on their February surgery dates!

Hi! I was wondering about upping the protein level before surgery. How do you do that? My surgery is Feb. 3, I flip flop between nervous and incredibly peaceful. Weird huh? I was having it Feb 22, but I was obsessing and could not even sleep, so I figured I better move the date up  :)
Any help on info about increasing protein levels would be appreciated.  thanks, Wendy

HI CHRYSTALE, I FEEL THE SAME WAY, I HAVE TO LOSE 20 LBS BEFORE MY SURGERY SO I FIGURE THE EXTRA TIME WILL BE GOOD, I WILL EAT GOOD FOR CHRISTMAS, JUST NOT ALOT, AND THEN REALLY START GETTING THE THINGS I NEED DONE FOR MY SURGERY. I AM NERVOUS AND HAPPY AT THE SAME TIME!!!

my date is 2/8/10.  But I am so mad at this point.  It's taken me 9 months to get to this point.  All the appointments, all the meetings and when I get to the surgeons office to make the surgery date, he tells me he wants me to loose 60lbs.  REALLY, YOU COULD NOT  HAVE TOLD ME THIS 9 MONTHS AGO WHEN WE STARTED!  Now I have to put it off longer if I do not loose 46 more lbs by Feb.  I looked at him and told him "If I could loose 60 lbs, I wouldn't need your dang surgery!".  He referred me to his nurses for further assistance.

Wow, that's harsh. I think I would have yelled pretty loud!

They're telling me in our support group that usually our particular surgeon is upfront early in the process if he's going to require more weight loss, but I'm afraid of just that kind of disappointment, too!
