Edema, water retention, swelling, varicose veins??? HELP xpost
I've gained ten pounds. My ankles change from fat to knankles but never normal anymore. This has been going on for a month now. I'm waking up with swelling which is totally new.
My doc says its vascular damage from years of obesity causing a backup of blood and fluids because the valves don't operate properly. I need compression stockings daily to combat this. What I don't get is why now?
Right after surgery it improved, even went away completely. Then last month it became worse than ever. I'm on diuretics also but still my body water is up 10% over last month. No sign of kidney trouble yet I drink water but don't potty much.
Anyone else experience this? How do you treat the swelling? Do compression garments help? Any supplements work for this?

I think the reason you are having more problems now is that you have lost weight and your legs are changing inside. That is kinda what they told me about my varicose veins and why they bothered me more now than ever. It's kinda like the saggy skin thing I think, when you lose weight in your legs, the veins stick out more and tend to get irritated. The compression socks are really good and will help with that heavy achy feeling. Make sure you get good quality ones from a health supply place. Keep us posted on how you are doing! I know it's no fun at all!
I don't have any pain or visible veins so it must all be on the inside. All there is is the visible swelling. No aches at all just big shins and knankles.
I'm looking for stockings but I'm having trouble finding the style type and color locally. I'll have to order them because I refuse to look like an old woman in support hose. Thanks for the input.
