burping with pain and can't eat
Hi,
I had my surgery on Feb. 23 2009 and all was going good until a week ago. I can't hold down protein drinks or soup or oatmeal. I get this terrible burping and pain for about 30 mins. constant burping. Then I am fine. I can hold down chicken, yougur****er, potato. I am just worried about getting enough nutrients as the meals are small. Does anyone else have this or had this???
My docture said its not a stricture and just cut the protein drinks for a week and see what happens. Oh and I am eating slow. Any thoughts??

Hi Peggy
Thanks for your reply, I was blending them and then started just mixing with a spoon and it still happens. yesterday I couldn't get soup down. But last night I did get chicken and a few bites of a potato down. The burping hurts its like an eruption and when you get it out you feel better but it last 30 min. My nut suggested not drinking shakes for a week and write down everything I am eating so we can see what the problem is. I can't wait to get past this part.

hmm... yeh intake diary is very important not only so u can keep track of daily intake but like u said so nut can go over with u what u have had or what u may need... hope u feel better soon.. this to shall pass... least u can have potatos. i cant have any starches, vegies, or fruits for another month.. am on soft proteins.. i've found rotisseree chicken is my best friend.. with a lil low fat gravy.. it goes down easy an doesnt repeat... as does.. thin sliced turkey breast an l/f string cheese.. thats my staples atm... im workin on adding other stuff lil by lil.. i do burp loud an eruptive if i have drank to fast.. an get a lil foamie in my throat... i know it must be annoying more then anything not knowing why or what is causing it... hugs....
I don't know what's going on with the burps but I burp after everything. Even little tiny sips of water will cause a burp. I simply can't do the protein drinks, I've tried but get incredibly sick when I do, so they're permanently off my list of protein options. I found that the protein I get from chicken and fish/tuna is lower in calories and you get a huge amount in a little portion. You're lucky with the potatos though. I love them but it doesn't matter if it's potato soup, baked, whatever, it makes me throw up within 15 minutes and I just can't handle it. Good luck with your endeavor. It isn't an easy change and I really began thinking that this surgery works through a diversion factor, simply making you look at food and say, "Oh, heck no!"
