Workout calorie exchange?

When I was doing Weigh****chers, we had a daily point allowance -  exercise deducted points from the amount consumed for that day.  Our group leader encouraged us to replace the exercise points with food points because not getting enough calories each day could make our bodies go into famine mode and we'd stop losing weight.

So, finally getting to the point, I've been averaging about 650 calories a day.  I've just started my workouts again (stationary bike and weights) which burns about 300 calories now and will burn even more when I get back up to the full weights workout.  My nut stays to not worry about calories at this point  but how can a body get by on 300 calories or less a day?

How do you guys handle this?

The only thing I've been cleared to do is easy walking. I'm going to ask about it at my appointment on Monday though.

Well, I get about 3-400 calories a day. I have been cleared since week one to go back to normal work, so I spend about an hour a day on the elliptical and about 40 min a day doing strength training. I do this everyday of the week so it has definitely helped! However, I seem to have a really lax surgeon, so others aren't able to do so much so soon.

i actually need to be going more than i am but with my schedule its really hard.  next week though i finally get to go back to work, so i will be hitting the gym every afternoon after work!!

best of luck to all my feb buddies!!

I am not allowed to lift more than 5 pounds or do more than walk for six weeks.  I am following my doc's orders to the T.  I wouldn't do more even if the doc was lax for one big reason.  I go to a couple support groups.  One is less formal and we talk to each other.  After hearing the people talk I asked the group one question.  Every single person there has had at least one hernia.  So, I will take it as easy as possible.  My goal is to make it without hernia's.

My surgeon's PA cleared me to resume weight training several weeks ago.  I've been trying to be cautious - slowing building up to my pre-surgery routine (especially for weights that move the core muscles) - and I've got to say that I feel Great after every workout   :)

I'll definately share your concern about hernias though - that doesn't sound fun at all.

MY daughter does WW and she is on me for eating to little calories.  She doesn't add pts for calories burned.  She eats enough that she doesn't need to.

With as little as you eat, I would think you would need to add to get enough.  I thought it was bad that I have to stay under 1000, I'd never lose eating only 650.

I am losing though (except for that stall that nearly all the early Feb folks seem to have gone through together).

I'll ask my nut when I'm in next and post the answer - for now I'm going to go with the theory that if I'm losing weight and feeling good, everything's fine.

I had a Wow moment yesterday - my Wii Sports (love it!) has a fitness test that scores your relative fitness based on speed, balance and stamina in terms of age.  Yesterday it said that I had the fitness level of a 26 year old (I'm 49) which is down 15 years from my last pre-surgery test.  Wheeee!
