Constipation

Ok sorry for the gross subject but is anyone dealing with this since surgery?  I'm 2 weeks out and have gone maybe once since I got home.  I lost 13 lbs the first week and nothing since.  I think the constipation might have something to do with it.  I used Milk of Magnesia (oops..didn't realize I wasn't supposed to yet) and an enema.  Both barely did anything.  My Dr said use suppositories or enemas...but nothing is working.  I am on solids and am feeling really bloated.

Suggestions?

I'm constipated as well. I sent an email to my surgeon's office last night so I should hear back from them this morning.... I'll share whatever advice they give me :)

He said to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate and then start of 17g of Miralax once a day and to keep him informed. Miralax is out for me as they don't sell it in Canada, so after talking to the pharmacist, I bought Colace. I'm trying that before trying to gag down a bottle of the magnesium citrate though. I figure if the Colace doesn't work, I'll do the bottle tomorrow.... yuck!

Ok if he says you are safe to do that then I'm going to try it because I'm desperate here lol.  I had to take that stuff before surgery for the bowel cleanse so I know how awful it is...but at least it worked!

Thanks again for the adivce

The tip I have heard over and over to prevent constipation is to use Benefiber EVERYDAY in your water, or protein shakes (or Fibersure).  It is colorless and tasteless, but keeps up with the fiber and keeps things moving..

I read about benefiber too...I'm hoping it doesn't taste gross because I have a hard enough time choking down my fluids.

Benefiber has NO taste.  Seriously!  I mix it in water and cannot see or taste it.

the differences with our surgeons is amazing!!  mine said he wouldnt tell me any medication to use for constipation....if i wanted to be poop free...drink 64 ozs or more a day...and things will move out fine.

i have been getting 64+ ozs a day..and havnt really had problems since then.

you guys are lucky though...seems like they have great aftercare...i can only call my surgeon during business hours. itsucks.
