Heads up for pureed diet folks - increase liquids

I've been getting in my full 64oz of water since the 2nd day after surgery...but that included all my liquid meals.  I've been on pureed diet for four days and just had an episode of really bad muscle cramps...across my back and part of my rib cage...ouch!!

I realised that I should have increased my water consumption to replace all those liquid meals I haven't been consuming.

I hope you are feeling better. What types of pureed foods are you eating? I'm glad you reminded us to keep our liquid intake up. I'm definitely not drinking enough.
Teresa- I am looking forward to leaving my behind, behind me!

It is amazing to me you could have drank 64 ounces of anything post op.  I guess it is a different surgery thing.  I was on 15-20 ounces for almost a week.  I can drink pretty freely now and get 50...gonna work on upping that though.  I have my post op visit monday

I've been very fortunate and have healed VERY quickly (I was up and walking 4 hours after surgery and taking walks around the neighborhood several days later.).   My husband and a good friend (who practically lived with us that first week) also nagged the bejeezus out of me about constantly drinking :)

The cramps are gone today but I feel like I was kicked in the ribs still.  Definately learned a lesson on this (and will discuss this with my surgeon in our scheduled check-in tomorrow to make-sure it wasn't something more serious than muscle cramps).

Just to let you know, the muscles spasms may have nothing to do with water. A very few people, me included, have severe abdominal muscle spasms after RNY for no really good reason. The muscle spasms I had were more severe than the kidney stones I've had. My surgeon told me I was just one of the lucky ones and to use a heating pad to get some relief, plus a lot of rest.
Just thought I would mention it. It happens to so few people that I've never even seen it mentioned on the board so I was really surprised when it happened.

i know exactly where you are coming from!!  i had the muscle cramps. but mine were in the backs of my calves it sucks!

i told my dr and he told me to back off on the food some and just get in protein and fluids.

the muscle cramps went away in about a day....64 ozs of fluid.....does a body good!  lol  try protein shakes to get in the combo...slim fast has a low carb diet kind its 11 oz, and 20 g protein.  also tastes great!!

Definitely different--isn't it? I'm really working now to get in all my fluids.

Thanks for the heads up!
