I am 11 days out. I have trouble getting in my water, but I never drank 64 oz of anything in a day before surgery! This is def. a life changer. I got in the mos****er today..maybe 40 oz. Its improving each day. I am down 14lbs since surgery, 30.6 including pre-op diet loss. I am encouraged. I do need to walk each night, I haven't been doing that.

Hi guyes I am on the losers bench now...

Of course I am on liquid diet weeks one.. however I am having a hard time getting in my liquieds... Its a battle with me... However I have lost a total 42 pounds 30 pre op and 12 post op woot woot

Hi Stephanie...my suregery was on February 4th...the first week and a bit were rough but thankfully i met someone (Foxy Roxy) on the Ontario forum who was 3 weeks ahead of me and she popped over to my place and gave me some awesome support, assured me that I was gonna be okay and just listened...
Now 3 weeks out, absolutley no pain, just a bit of discomfort if I lay on my left side, no problems getting fluids in, protein is a bit of a struggle cause to get in all in, I feel like I never stop putting something whetther it be liquids or solids in my mouth, but Dr Pop told me when I left the hospital not to be too concerned about calories or protein early out.  But now at 3 weeks I am very focused on getting exercise (even if it's a little bit), getting my protein in and staying away from the darn scales...LOL!

Hi, All!

I got home on Sunday after my gastric bypass on 2/20. I'm finding it tough to get in a lot of liquids, but I keep sipping at them all day -- when I'm awake, which seems to be only for a few hours in the day (I think I've only been awake for an hour or two at a time, with an hour or two or four!! nap in between for the past couple of days). 

The surgery went well.  I had some adhesions from a bladder tuck 15 years ago, that needed to be removed before they could stretch things out and reposition, etc., so the surgery that was to last about 2 hours, lasted 4.  I have six bandaids on my belly. Four are 'normal' sized, and two are for those 'big cuts' (the ones that would cover a whole scraped knee on a 8 year old).

I did do a jello cup for lunch and a pudding cup late night snack on Monday, and felt like crap afterward (especially after the pudding cup -- I've heard that it's common to be lactose intolerant after surgery, so I'm not too concerned), so I decided to give them a rest for a few days and try again later this week. I was really thirsty before bed last night, and started to gulp a cup of water.  Bad idea, and my body told me so right away. Thankfully, everything I've put into my body has stayed.

I don't know what number to start my official weigh in with.  I know what I was at the Doc last time I was there, but that was before two weeks of liquid diet. They never weighed me directly pre-op.  I did hit the scale the day after the operation, and it had me up about 10 pounds from what I was going into surgery (at least according to the scale at AccuWeather). From what I've read that's to be expected, even tho they don't tell you that in your pre-op classes. So, it was a bit of a shocker, even though I had read that it was a distinct probability.

The extra weight could also have been more of a shock because I was overheating from the effort to walk down to the scale, and my body wasn't reacting well to that. The nurse (I not so affectionately named "Nurse-zilla") yelling at the guys to hold me up while she got a wheel chair didn't help either. ;)  I showed her -- walked the whole way back to my room -- even tho she had a hold on my underwear in the back giving me a major wedgie -- as if that was going to keep me upright if I passed out. Let's see 300 pounds vs. a few ounces of cotton.  Nope! I don't think it would have helped. ;)  After my trek Paul (my son) went out and bought a desk fan for the room, since none could be found in the hospital -- or so Nursezilla said. I was simply frying. It was amusing watching him assemble it w/out looking at the directions. ;) While I sat in the reclining chair enjoying the fan, the guys (hubby Mark, son Paul, ex John) took turns in the hospital bed beside me.

I went to a Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet last night.  After the car ride (about 15-20 minutes to Park Forest Middle School) and about an hour there, I was done. I stuck it out for the whole thing (just shy of 2 hours), but I really felt like crap by the time I got home. Just worn out. Beat. I even took some of my Oxycodone when I got home to help ease the hurt.  The first time I've taken it since the trip home from the hospital -- which was a 1.5 hour drive from Danville.  [I made the guys pull over about half way so I could 'rest/recover' a bit from the bumping.  Fifteen minutes in a parking lot and I was good to go again. I definitely wanted to get home before the pain meds wore off. I can't imagine that drive w/out the meds!]  Oh, I did stick my pinkie into Mark's deviled egg and got just a little bit of the yolk (about 1/16th of a tsp -- what is that in measuring terms -- a pinch? a dash? a smidgen?).  It tasted good. ;)  I nearly licked my fingers after cutting a piece of cheesecake for one of the Scoutmasters -- got it all the way into my mouth, and the cheesecake touched my tongue before I realized what I was doing and pulled back.  So, I switched the plate to the other hand, and realized there was cheesecake on the now-free hand, too, and started to raise it to my mouth, but it only got to about a foot away from my mouth -- I stopped myself in time both times, but man, it was hard/frustrating. I didn't want my first 'episode' with food to happen in front of a bunch of kids. Pride cometh before a fall, I know, but ... I didn't want any of them to be scared that I'd eaten something bad -- I'm sure all of the food was wonderful! It certainly looked/smelled that way.

My first followup is on 3/3, so we'll see what the docs say.  I have been keeping a journal not as much how much liquid -- which is increasing each day, but definitely for the protein.

Well, time for my first nap of the day!

I had my surgery on 2/4/09 and am doing great!  My outsides are fine, but there's still soreness inside.  I'm at the soft food stage and losing a little slower than at first, but still losing.  Getting fluids in has been tricky because I was so used to guzzling water  before.  Now, since I have to sip, the water doesn't taste as good, so I buy bottles of Diet Lipton Green Tea which has no calories and packets of Crystal Lite to put in bottles of water which have only 5 calories.  These items help me stay on track, somewhat, with my water.  I push for four 16.9 oz  bottles a day---two at work and two in the evening.  It's difficult to get it all in, but each time I think about some of the urinary tract infections I've had in the past, I work harder at drinking liquids.   My biggest battle so far is exercise---I hate it.  I walked a few times on the treadmill a week post-op, but it made my stomach hurt, so I'm going to start back this week for maximum weight loss.  Even so, I find that I move around more and do more housework so I hope this counts too!

Hi everyone

I am 10 days out today and doing well.  I am eating a lot of things now, as long as I chew it a ton it seems to go down ok.  I did try a slice of turkey cold cut and that hit my pouch like a lead weight...won't go there again for a week or two more.  My main staples are refried beans with cheese, tuna and touch of real mayo (the low fat stuff makes me gag), soft boiled eggs, chili, and yogurt.  I try experimenting with something new every day.  My tummy is a little off this morning so I stuck with ff refriend beans (2-3oz.)

Getting my fluids in is still a challenge.  I've added one protein shake a day with skim milk for an additional 30g of protein.  I think I might get in 45g a day total.

I'm actually surprised how well my pouch is tolerating things.  I haven't pushed anything and I make sure whatever I eat has no more than 5g of sugar and try to keep the fat low, but so far so good.

Some of my incisions are still a little sore, and I get tired and dizzy often, but I figure time will cure all!  I lost 31lbs before surgery and 14 in a week and a half.  I haven't lost a pound in a few days but I expected a stall.

I had my surgery on 2/2/09.  I did liquid for one week, pureed for week two, less pureed for week three and this week I get to have seafood and soft cooked veggies.  It is crazy- I had mashed pototoes for lunch- you would think after eating them for an entire week you would get tired of them- I found them comforting.  At my two week appointment I had lost 15lbs.  I haven't bought a scale so I won't get discouraged when I stall.  Tomorrow is my 4 week appointment- I am just hoping for another 4 lbs.  I am keeping calories under 900, protein 80-100gms and now I have to keep my carbs under 40gms.  Won't be getting to many more mashed potatoes!
