Home from mondays surgery

I just got home a little while ago...sooo glad to be in my own bed again.  Still having some post-op pain, but it's manageable.  I do notice that every time I take a sip of fluids my little pouch rumbles and then I have to burp.  I think it's from all the gas pumped into me...hopefully that will go away soon.

I did have some trouble with my oxygen being down yesterday, so I was on a mask the whole time in the hospital and had to do lots of deep breathing exercizes and a few breathing treatments.  I'm pretty sure it's because I was fighting a little bit of a cold even before surgery and laying down not coughing helped make it worse.

All is well though now and I'm actually looking forward to some real food...I think my little pouch is hungry lol (although I was praying I just wouldn't be hungry again).  I have to wait until monday though to move off of clear liquids.

So all in all a good experience and not as much pain as i was expecting.  Looking forward to the next steps!

Good luck everyone about to go in.

Welcome home! The rumbling is gas. I rumbled, grumbled, and gurgled for a good 4 to 5 days. It's a bit better now but still feel the rumble from time to time. Walking really helps. I was allowed to take Gas X and that helped as well. I had oxygen issues as well. I wasn't breathing in deep enough because of the pain medicine. Anyway, I'm glad you are home and doing so well. Welcome to the loser's bench!

i had problems with oxygen too, and they gave me this breathing thingy to take deep breaths...i cant remember what its called...i just practiced with it every hour i was awake for about 5 days...all better now.

The clear liquids are gonna get you a bit down by day 6....just keep in mind....pureed isnt bad!  You can make most of your fav meals with pureed, and youll get there before you know it!  take time let your new tummy heal and sip, sip, sip!

Thanks for all the responses.  I am doing ok this evening...just feeling a lot of pressure still under my chest bone, but I'm pretty sure it's just gas.  For some reason I'm a bit shakey...maybe because I'm not getting any calories in at all.  (Just sugar free liquids).  I keep reminding myself to sip and to use my breathing thingy to help open my lungs.

All I want to do is sleep though...

Hey stranger, sorry we lost touch.  I have had so much going on between my dehydration and my little guy being sick again with his sinus problems.  I am glad your doing ok, I hope all went well with the surgery.  Your gonna do fantastic, just remember that you need to drink, I forget because I get wrapped up in things with the kids and the next thing I know I haven't had a sip in an hour.  Please message me when you get time.  I am back to work now, only a few days a week, but it wipes me out.  So take it easy and get the rest while you can.  I will talk to you soon.

Hello from across the state!  I had my surgery on the 16th, also.  My gas is already better today post op day 5.  The rumbling is funny.  Mine would start when my family would all go to bed and keep me up.  It sounded like a far off storm approaching!

You will feel less shaky as the days go by.  I felt that way, too.  It doesn't seem as bad now.  I am off the pain meds and I think that makes you feel more in control.  (I was lucky and didn't need to use them much at all).  BUT it is better to feel good enough to move around than try and deal with the pain.  Moving is really what will help you.  Your breathing, blood clots and GAS!!  Don't forget to keep hydrated with drinking!!
