Which surgery are you having?    Hasn't your surgery center told you how long you should be planning to stay?

I had my pre-op class today.  Lap-Band is a 1 nighter, and Gastric-Bypass is 2 nights. The people in our class that were diabetic were told not to take their diabetic meds the morning of the surgery, because they'd rather deal with high blood sugars during surgery than low blood sugars.  This makes my 3rd pre-op class and on Friday, I see the surgeon..... my surgery is next Wed., 2/25/09..... They should have given you some pre-op teaching and written instructions.  I had to take a test today!!!!!

My surgery is the 25th too.  I already had my nutrition class and was given written material.

From the boards it looks like RNY 2-3 nights.  Can you call and ask how many nights?  I would book three nights and than if they tell you it will be 2 you can cancel one.  Also, if you have a long ways to travel you may want to spend the night at the hotel close to the hospital and go home the next day.

Our pre-op instructions were to hold diabetic medications the morning of surgery.  I'd contact your primary care physician and ask their advise.  I'd think that while you're in the hospital, that they'll monitor your blood sugars and give you insulin according to your blood sugars.  I have a friend that had gastric bypass, and she is no longer a diabetic, but she lost over 100 lbs. before she had normal blood sugars.  Our pre-op instructor said that gastric bypass patients are in the hospital for 2 nights, and that's if there are no problems.
