thank u for posting this... im on the same "schedule" post op my surgery is a few days after urs.. ok heres the funny thing.. ive went through a whole 6-8month pre-op program.. witha groupe of people.. yesterday at last pre-op appt.. ran into one of the women from my group i had classes with.. so i know every thing she was taught cause i was in the same classes.. anyhow she totally urked me.. her surgery is a week after mine so im on my 2week pre surgery liquids.. which she doesnt start till next week an she was tellin me about how a few days after surgery "we" can have lose mashed potatos, creame of wheat, oatmeal etc... an im a stickler if its not on list im not consuming it.. from what i have read an been told by professionals no starches till stage 4.. so where does she get the idea u can have mashed potatoes afew days after surgery? i said to her not as far as i know.. an she got all defensive as if i took away her one happiness.. i said well from what i understand this 2week liquid turns into actually more like 2 months 2weeks before an 4-6 weeks after its not rocket science.... an im at the point where i dont care if i ever eat my fav foods again.. i just want to be healthy...
I've read various books where they were eating mashed potatoes w/ the soft foods. I know you're to get some carbs ... but, the less carbs you eat, the more fat your body breaks down -- as long as you're exercising (when the Doc okays it) so that it doesn't attack your muscle first.
And, before you say 'what muscle' ... you've got to be a very strong person to carry around the extra person that you are carrying on your frame! Hard facts. ;)

Just wanted to chime in. I had my RNY on Feb 4th. I was on liquids day after surgery and pureed the day after that. Pureed consists of mashed potatoes, oatmeal, applesauce and even saltine crackers!! I am to stay on pureed until my 2 week check up, then he will put me on regular food (small prtions of course).
