Maria,

Not every surgeon uses a drain.  Mine did but it wasn't that big of a thing, more of a bother.  They took it out the day I was released from the hospital, took all of 3 seconds and wasn't terrible.  Best thing to do is ask your surgeon.

I have had a drain tube in the past. It doesnt hurt, however like stated below if anything it is a neausance. When they take it out it feels rather weird with a slight pinch. Its there usually to collect blood, rather then it pooling upinside......

I had surgery on Thursday and my drain will be in until I see my surgeon again on the 23rd. It is a bit of a nuisance but that is all. It isn't painful and when I'm sitting still or resting I forget it is even there. Not all surgeons use drains and not all leave them in as long as mine.

Good luck.

I had my surgery on the 27th of Jan.  My surgeron left a drain also. It is a big pain in the butt. Mine hangs and bugs the hell out of me. I should hopefully have it removed on the 24th of this month. I've heard about the way it feels when they pull it out so i'm kind of freaking out. Don't know if I'll be able to handle it. I can tolerate pain but some say it feels like a worm coming out your body and that like totally grosses the heck out of me. We'll see I think I'll be more excited about getting it out that day than what its gonna feel like. I'll probably just close my eyes so I don't think about it. Maybe I won't even feel it. HOPEFULLY.

Lizzyliz1, I'm also afraid... Let me know how you get through the removal of the drain thingy. Smiles Maria..

I just had my port pulled on the 6th and it was uncomfortable for a moment then sore. But what's more uncomfortable is it will be tender for three to four days. Mine wasn't sewn up they put gauze over it and taped it and its starting to close on its own.Hope this helps out a little bit.Wish you all the best.

I will have a drain in for around a week and I will have to add blue food coloring to my water - this is to check for leaks.  I'm sure my kids will think it's way cool that I'll have blue water...

I noticed there was a drain port hanging there a couple hours post op after having walked the floor and sat up in the chair for hours.  I freaked when I first heard about drains but in the end it was no bother at all.  It was removed the day after surgery and all I felt was a twinge with the first pull and it was out.
