Everyone doing okay emotionally???

Hey there everyone. I can't recall if I posted about being home from the hospital or not, but here I am and as I sit here typing this, I can't believe that just Tuesday I was lying on an operating room having my plumbing re-routed! I was talking to a friend who asked if I was having any buyer's remorse or regret. Honestly, I haven't had one single second of that. Yes I cried when thing were hurting more than I expected, but it passed very quickly as did the discomfort. I'm actually wondering when the other shoe is going to drop. I've heard so much about people being really sad and regretful soon after surgery and I'm just wondering if anyone else is feeling pretty darn normal and excited and happy. Hopefully it will just continue to be this good. I have heard that the fat cells can release estrogen which can make us feel very PMSey, but so far so good.

And if you are having a rough spell, share that too. We all can help each other through our ups and downs.

I hope everyone is doing super!

Denise

I'm doing ok.... I just wish that my cough would go away!!! I have no other symptoms and I don't know if they'll cancel surgery if it's not gone. I'm going to email Dr Fitzer Monday and see what he says.

Oh no--get better fast! I don't know what their policies are, but I, for one, would NOT want to be having to deal with a cough this entire time. No way baby. I'm sure it will be gone well before then! I'll say a little prayer for you.

Let us know what the doc says.

I'm so glad you said that about "waiting for the other shoe to drop"!!  I've been having the exact same thoughts.

I'm continuing to do very well but am starting to get restless and bored (which is probably a good sign now that I think about it) but I don't have much energy.  I went out on an errand with my husband this morning and completely ran out of energy after about only 10 minutes.  I'm back in my recyliner now :)

I'm getting in all my fluids and protein thanks to the Isopure but Dear Lord I'm getting sick of Isopure!  I'm going try freezing it into a slushie.

Good question!!
I have had a few "moments" wondering why in the world I did this to myself, but then I look at my most recent FAT pictures, and then I remember!  Oh yes!  I NEEDED to do this for my health!  I am hungry quite often and do not understand WHY.  Anyone know?  I am struggling to get in all the protein, and am not even close.  Everything tastes "YUCKY".  So that bugs me.  I am making chicken soup for the family and will only be able to eat (creamed together in my magic bullet) broth, carrots and more broth.  I want a hunk of that chicken, but know there is NO way my stomach could handle this.  BTW, to keep me on my toes, our advise nurse at Kaiser told me that my doctor just lost a patient.  Not one of Kaiser's patients, but another person that recently had surgery.  This person ate a "slice of Pizza" two weeks post op and their stomach became blocked and emergency surgery was not quick enough!  Soooo, remembering that story will keep me honest.

I will attempt to make protein popsicles later.  maybe that will help.

Sorry you are having a bit of a time with it, but yes, my before pictures will jog me right back to reality!

As far as the hunger thing, I was told the nerves that are damaged during surgery control the hungry/full sensation and that is why we have to be so careful to measure everything so as to not overdo it since we may not be able to feel much. Also be aware that the "Sensation" of full I'm told is different--more of a heaviness in the center of your chest and that it can also be a runny nose since apparently the vagal nerve gets irritated as we get full and that makes the nose run. Yes, I had a very informative OR nurse!!

I also responded to Steph about how I'm getting in protein with unflavored protein powder--maybe something to think on. It isn't "flavorless" but it goes awesome in my broth and hot tea (decaf of course!)

Well, you hang in there. Each day will get better (or so I'm told!)

Take good care!

Denise

Hi Linda - Isopure has been a staple for me, I like the idea of making it into a slushy.  Sugar free Popsicles have been good too.  Other than than, it is low fat cottage cheese and Greek yogurt.  Tonight I get to try mashed potatoes.  I also liked egg drop soup.

Sharon, Isopure what?  I did a search and came up with dozens of products.
Thanks

Hey Steph. I am also still pretty tired and this stomach achiness is definitely enough to keep me from wanting to run out. I took a shower last night and it was everything I could do to just do that and get my jammies on. And let's not talk about the discomfort that wells up when I need to burp. I'm not loving that. Have you tried other proteins?

Right now I'm allowed yogurt and getting in greek yogurt with some cherry crystal light--yummy, as well as low fat cottage cheese. I'm still totally baffled as to why some doctors do some items during some stages and others not, but it has definitely helped me not get sick of all the sweet, sweet, sweet. I think I'd be having more trouble if it was all protein drinks.  Also doing unflavored protein powder everytime I have broth and I've added it to hot tea (really more just warm so the protein doesn't cook and get yucky) and that was a nice soothing treat. I also had ordered that 11 pack (for 10 bucks) of full size serving samples from Nectar. They have been good because I can choose either a chocolatey type drink or something like lemonade or iced tea.

Now I just need to start writing everything down. I figured I'd give myself a couple days to get used to the pills and vitamins and supplements and shakes and fluids--oh yeah, easy way out--right!!

Thanks for sharing!

Denise
