So, I have started my 14 day all liquid diet and so far, so good. I have learned that the protein shakes are much easier to get down if I just suck it down as fast as I can! If I let myself taste it I wanna puke! The naseousness the shakes cause defintiely helps me to fight away the hunger though! lol. I have managed to get about 80oz of water a day and an hour of exercise for a few weeks now, so that should continue pretty easily. Honestly the hardest part for me is that even though I quit smoking for the sugery a few months ago, I still crave REALLY BAD!! Especially starting this liquid diet, whenever I would diet in the past cigarettes would help stifle the hunger. It's cruel they are making me quit food and cigarettes all at once....lol. Anywho, so I am getting REALLY excited! Good luck to all of my fellow Febbers! I cannot wait to join you all on the Loser's Bench!!!

Good for you for quitting smoking too!  I think this liquid diet feels like quitting smoking.  I quit 8 years ago and really dislike smoke now, cant stand it.  But the liquid diet has made me feel like smoking a couple times.  So hang in there. On day 3 you will feel much much better.  Chew gum (sugar free).

When I started into OA last year I was told that addictions are like having 3 trash cans and only 2 lids...... you'll always be working on containing one. I quit smoking almost 6 years ago and any time I get my eating under control, the smoking dreams come back and I start craving them again...... and I can't stand the smell of cigarettes or smokers now! Trying to battle both at once will be tough.... but you can do it! Keep your eye on the prize and keep reminding yourself why you're doing this. Wouldn't hurt to remind yourself about the ulcers that you'd be alot more likely to get if you start back up as well...LOL

Good luck on your pre-op! 14 days is tough.... I've got to hand it to all of you doing it..... you guys are strong!!

Stephanie,

That is one of the best analogies I have ever heard! Thanks for sharing it with me lol! Ugh, it is the end of the day and I am doing a LOT better then I thought I would. I even went out to dinner with my mother and my mother-in-law and only had a 1/cup serving of salad with no dressing! Protein shake before I left the house though! I hope the next 13 days continue to go as smooth. Thanks for your advice! I can't wait for us to get our surgeries over with!

It really hit home when she said that to me because it fits. Every time I get something under control, something else gives.
I do not envy anyone who has to do your diet for 14 days..... it sounds hard and horrible. I've read alot on here though that it gets easier after the first couple of days. I'm routing for you! You are a brave woman going out to a restaurant and having only what you did!

I just did 3 days of nothing but J-ello and sugar free KoolAid..... but only because I was laid up with the flu, my pre-op diet is only the 3 days right before. But in those 3 days with the flu, I lost 10lbs! Thank you flu diet...LOL
Now if I could just get rid of this horrid cough!!!

Hey... new to this board... just figured out how to find people who are having surgery the same time I am.   My date is 2/17 as well and my pre op diet started yesterday.  No two weeks of liquid for me though... my doc just wants me to do a high protein, low carb thing.  And then of course a day of clear liquids before the surgery.  It's not too bad so far... chicken and eggs :-)

I just got my date last week and now of course the time is just crawling by.  I thought that all the pre op tests would take up some time and keep me busy but I finished all but one today.

Anyway, glad to find some people to share this time with!

Welcome, I haven't been on here long, but have found this website and the forums within an untapped resource in information! lol. Ugh, I wish I had your pre-op diet! I am starving! lol. Well it is only the morning of day 2, so I imagine it should get better as the time passes! In the past 24 hours I have only had 4 protein shakes (6oz each), 1 cup of salad (nothing on it), and like 90oz of water! But, I am confident in what I can do and wha my surgeon asks me to do, so this too shall pass! I have all of my pre-op appointments today. I am REALLY excited! I know I still have two weeks to go, but completing this step means I am one more step closer to changing my life! Anywho, it is really good to meet you and I welcome you here! Soon we will be welcoming each other to the loser's bench!

Hello all.. I am having my surgery 2/23.  I, too, am lucky that I don't have to do the 14 day liquid diet. I have to do high protein/low carb--South Beach like for 2 weeks, but I decided to do it for 3 just to get myself used to following some kind of program.  Then I have to do 2 days of clear liquids right before and a laxative the afternoon before.  That won't be fun, but I'll deal.

I have done everything I am supposed to do. All the tests are done (including an endoscopy that I had on Wednesday), all the appointments are done, now it's just a waiting game and I am not a patient person.

The nurse at the hospital jacked up my wrist when she did the IV for the endoscopy.  She put it on the inside of my wrist because she said she couldn't find anything on the back of my hand.  I've NEVER had any problems getting an IV or having a blood test, so I'm not sure what kind of crack she was smoking but now I have a mega bruise on my hand.  If she's there the day of my surgery, she told me to ask for her to do the IV, but HE** NO.  The anesthesiologist even wondered why she did it there and told me that if they try to do that the day of my RNY to tell them that I want him to put the IV in.  I'll be sure to speak up about that one.  That freakin' hurt!

Anyway, the countdown is on.  I have 16 days until my new birthday and I can't wait!!!
