Surgery 02/17

My surgery is exactly 3 weeks from today and I cannot wait!! I feel like I am finally on the right path to making a significant change in my life and improving how I live it! If I am being honest I have to say that I am a bit nervous. I love food and giving up my favorite things will be like an addict giving up their drugs, but I know that this is what must be done in order to change my life! Oh, and I am always taking suggestions on how to make the pre-op diet go easier!

LOL..... I looked at your surgeon's name and it made me laugh!! I read it the same way as Richard Simmons !

Anyway.... Hi.... I have my surgery the same day in Utica, New York with Dr Fitzer. There's another lady with the same date as well but she has the same surgeon as I do. When does your pre-op diet start?

Yeah I totally read it that way when I was referred to him by my PCM. lol. I just moved here to Texas from Fort Drum, NY (Watertown/Syracuse area). I loved it up there! I actually MISS the snow! Anywho, my pre-op diet starts Monday and that is the most daunting part for me! I love food! But I understand why it is important and what it is going to mean for my future!

What kind of pre-op diet do you have to do? My surgeon just wants me to do a 3 day liquid diet right before the surgery.

Well, starting this coming Tuesday I have to go on a 14-day liquid diet with protein shakes 3-4 times a day only. If I get really hungry I am allowed to have a salad with nothing on it. Should be loads of fun .

I don't have a pre-op diet, I just need to do a clear liquid diet for 2 days prior.  I guess every doctor is different..

Hi My surgery is the 18th! I am on week 2 of a 4 week long 5 shakes a day diet. If I get real hungry I am allowed an egg white. It is not that bad! As long as you make sure nobody cooks bacon the first couple days!!! I thought I would kill my husband for that!  You can do it!!!
           Good luck!

I'm also having surgery 2/17... I am on an ultra lo cal/lo fat diet (about 300 calories a day) for the next two weeks. Surprisingly, all is well so far. I havent felt hungry... I think the adrenaline is helping a bit. I am so excited!

Hi there.  I too am having surgery on 2/17/09.  I don't have to do a diet prior...just clear liquids Monday prior.  I go tomorrow for my lab work, ekg, and chest xray.  I am getting nervous but excited too.  Good luck!
