Abnormal pre-surgery lab?

OMG!  I am freaking out.  I read my lab results online and they show elevated Leukocyte count.  I researched and that means a urinary infection, which I have NO symptoms of.  Help!  Surgery is scheduled for Monday and I am so upset right now.  Of course I cannot find out anything until tomorrow morning.

If your doctor hasn't called you, I wouldn't worry.  Drink plenty of water and watered down cranberry juice to flush your system.  I drink cranenergy, it is low in carbs.   My lab tests showed I was low on iron, so I had to start taking iron pills before surgery.  I too am having surgery on Monday.  Do you have to do a liquid diet?  I am hating mine right now, but it is for the best.  I wish you Luck and a safe and quick recovery.

Linda if you worried contact your pcp and bring this to there attention of what you found. Sincerely, I believe if there was something majorly wrong they would have given you a prescription for this. But do what makes you feel comfortable and make that call. It will put your mind at ease and you will feel better. Try to have a good one and let me know how things go for you.

I took the test yesterday late afternoon and saw the results online last night, so they have not had a chance to even look at the results yet.  I do have a nurse appt today, so I will absolutely bring it to her attention!  Thanks everyone.  I will let you know.

dont worry linda, im a lab tech and see this all the time and 9 times outta 10 its not a UTI, ur doc may just have you do a urine culture to check for infection, but it will not prevent your surgery,

Best of Luck,Bri

Thanks everyone for your support!  I just got back for the nurse appt I had. She did not look at my results, said she did not have access from her desk, but  she was NOT worried about it at all.  She said it would not cause the surgeon to reschedule.  I would have felt a tad better if she had actually LOOKED at the lab results.  Anyhow, if anything changes I will update everyone.  OH!  I just received a phone call from the doctor and he IS phoning in a prescription for me just in case!  I feel better, now

Just curious, if it is not too personal to share....  your surgery had to be rescheduled. Why did they have to reschedule?

Glad it all turned out well!

My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday but they may postpone because my iron levels had dropped 2 points since last lab work.  I explained that I'd run out of iron supplements a month ago but was waiting until after surgery to see what I needed.  They've got me taking iron tabs 3x a day with orange juice now.  FIngers crossed that it gets the levels up where they need to be.

Steph, I will keep you in my prayers.  I do not feel I am out of the woods just yet.  I will wait to see what the surgeon says on Thursday.  My fingers are crossed, too!
