Newbie.... Surgery Date Feb 9....Detroit Michigan
Thanks....
Good luck to everyone....
I'm a Feb. 9th RNY too. I've been reading different things as well, but after attending an orientation at my WLS center, I feel pretty confident. I started a pre-op diet about 10 days ago. 3 slim fast, one balanced lo fat meal, 5 fruits/veggies. I'm going to switch to just all liquids the week or so before just for an extra boost. I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow, so will have more to share.
I'm taking extra Calcium because my PTH level was elevated, but its down now. I take a multi-vitamin (I started taking Flintstones since I will be on those after surgery).
Keep me posted, and I will do the same. Keeping you in my thoughts-
Kathy

It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

There is so much advice about protien shakes and vitamans on the boards. Everybody's taste seems to be different and even different before and after surgery.
Check out the boards, if you don't find your answers, let me know and I will tell you what my favorites are, but I am so new I'm not sure my advice would be good to take at this time
My RNY is also 2/9 and my pre-op diet starts 1/26. My daughter had WLS last year and she told me the best thing I can do is follow the pre op diet to the letter and exercise. Her surgeon said this would reduce pain, the size of the liver, and speed recovery.
My surgeon prints on the top of the diet instructions that they are to be followed exactly as written. I do not want complications because of a fatty liver so hard as it will be I'm going to do it.
Per my surgeon, with the pre op diet I'm taking twice daily: multi vitamin, 600mg calcium with vitamin d, 50mg CoQ10.
I haven't figured out the protein drink thing yet. My daughter has some for me but when she was taking them I could not bring myself to taste it. She used powders in single serve packets. She thought the brand Spruteen tasted best. I'm going to try something already mixed.
This is not much for advice but I hope it helps.

Hello Heather,
I have been on my liquid diet since Tuesday. I have two slim-fast shakes one for breakfast one for lunch and in the afternoon I have a slimfast protein bar. I am allowed either a healthy choice lean cuisine or smart ones meal nothing pasta based and a salad as well. I can have broth crystal light and water at anytime.I have also been taking flintstones multi-vitamin not the gummy bear ones the chewables. The gummies have no iron in it and wont do you any favors if you choose to go with this vitamin. At your doctors the nutritionist should have given you what is allowed and what is not. If you need to know more you should definitely give them a call. I wish you the best and will see you on the losing bench with the rest of us.

I actually call my doctors office regarding the liquid diet. I was told that I only have to do that for the two days before. However, I started chaing somethings myself. I have given up pop. Monday I started drinking Slim fast and not eating any fried foods and stuff like that. like for dinner tonight I had a apple and some water when I came home from class (at 10:00) Over the week end I went and purchased my vitamins, sugar free jello & puddings, and stuff like that. Today I had my pre testing and I actually lost a couple of pounds . So I guess its all set I guess....
Good luck to you.......
Heather
