To answer my own questions.....

I live about 4 hours away from where my surgery will take place. My sister is driving me to and from Utica. I do home daycare and my mother has agreed to take over while I'm gone and then help out until I'm ready to be on my own again, and also to take the one infant I have until I get the clear from the doctor for lifting her.
I've set all of my appointments up, completed my ECG, faxed out the couple of things I'm able to so far, picked up vitamins and Gas-X strips, booked the hotel, made arrangements for work, made arrangements for someone to come with me, and doing LOTS of reading about it!

What have you done so far to get ready? I haven't had to do a whole heck of a lot yet. The Dr.'s office got the ok from my insurance. I brought in the records release to my family physician. This week I have to go up to the local hospital for blood work. I have two appointments in the end of January to meet with a nutritionist and for the psych. consult. I have started to try and pay more attention when I am eating and taking smaller bites and chew, chew chewing. The hardest part I am going to face is not being able to drink with my meals. (This was per my Dr.)

How far are you from your place of surgery? I live just over an hour from the Dr.'s office and place of surgery.

How much time did you book off of work? I work as a receptionist/Dr. Assistant for an Optometrist so fortunatley I don't do much heavy duty work. Right now I have taken 2 weeks off hopefully I don't have to take more than that. *fingers crossed*

Hi Steph,
I have not done much for the surgery as of now. I will no better when I go for my pats.

I am about 3 hours away from the hospital and doctor.

I do not work full time in any job. I am a volunteer at the VON office doing office work at 2 different offices. I can take anytime off that I need to take off.

Haven't heard from you for a while so I thought I would answer your message. I am also excited about the surgery. I have been having thoughts about the surgery but come to the same conclusion that I have made the right decision to go thru this. Well I just noticed the time, its time for me to go to bed!!!!! Talk to you later. Sharon

Hello Stephanie and all!

What have I done so far to get ready:  Well, all labs were done, including a sleep study. GH requires prepayment of a NUT for one year. I've done that, and am just waiting them to contact me and assign a NUT to work with.  I won't have the recommended 8 weeks, which freaks me out a bit, but they say not to worry.

I live about two hours from my place of surgery, and plan on no more than hopefully 2 nights in the hospital.

I'm a Clinical Supervisor for mental health professionals, so am pretty much in office. So, I've booked three weeks off from work, with the plan, God willing, to return at two weeks. Luckily I can do quite a bit of email, calls and consults from home.

I'm getting exicted too! February 9th is coming up fast.

BEST WISHES TO ALL OF US FOR SUCCESSFUL SURGERIES AND SPEEDY RECOVERIES!
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in
Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

I'm excited for my surgery on Feb 25th too!

I've had an ECG and Sleep Study.  I now have a CPAP machine.  Lots of reading, books and online.

I live about 5 1/2 hours away from Barix.

I haven't booked anytime off work yet........my manager does know, I am hoping for a cancellation!!  So haven't book time off yet.  I have a sit down computer job. So when I do book the time off, no more than 2 weeks if I can.  I don't do any heavy lifting.......so I believe I should be okay to return to work.
