Topic: NERVOUS & SCARED ABOUT SURGERY
My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday 2/13. I have started feeling nervous and a bit scared. No that does not change my decision and I will not cancel my surgery. But I feel like I put off doing things until now, the last possible week I could take care of business....and that business is making out a will and appointing a legal guardian for my daughter if I don't make it through surgery. i don't know what would be legal, and I am scared to death my daughter's father, if something happens to me next week, that he will try to fight for custody when he does not have joint custody now and hasn't seen our daughter in 10 yrs 6 months, and she's only 11 yr 6 months now. He abandoned her in 1998. He left the state, never told me, he just took off.
i know the rate of fatality is very slim, but I need to be prepared but I feel like I have waited way too long to do something about this legally. I wanted everything prepared ahead of time. But I won't be able to get all this done legally.
Has anyone else felt scared or nervous right before surgery? I am pretty sure things will be ok but with that small change, I am scared that my daughter will wind up in the guardianship of a man who she doesn't know her who she is afraid of, and who she doesn't have any desire to see or speak with. I am so angry with myself for not taking care of this before now. I need help. I already have a family member who I asked to be my daughter's guardian if something should happen to me. But I warned them about her father's sneaky selfish ways and warned them he may try to gain custody because of the financial gain in it for himself. I have life insurance, pension death benefit, private (extra) db life insurance, and of course my daughter would receive monthly social security checks if I pass away. I am really scared about this. I don't know where to go or who to talk to about this. I do know a couple lawyers and hope to talk to them tomorrow to get advice and last minute suggestions on how to prepare in writing NOW even though there is only 1 week til surgery.

Topic: Need referrals in the DC/VA area
Hi All,
After so much, I finally got my date of 2/11. I joined OH a long time ago, but this is my first post, and I'm hoping someone on this site will be able to help me out. You see, about a week after getting my band in the NYC area, I'm moving to the DC/VA area, and I would appreciate your referrals/recommendations for a surgeon (for follow-ups) and a nutritionist. I've found a support group in DC, and I'll have to see how I fit in with that group when I get there. Hopefully, the surgeon I feel comfortable with will also have a nutritionist I feel comfortable working with in his/her office.
So, if you're in the DC/VA area, I'd appreciate your feedback and referrals.
Thanks so much in advance for your help!
Topic: RE: getting anxious, feb 14th 2 weeks away!!
I'm having RNY on 2/15, and my doc didn't require a liquid diet pre-op. I'm going to see him tomorrow and verify, but the nurse even said I can eat dinner the night before! I don't know why, but every surgeon seems to have different rules.
I've also heard that in addition to slippers, your pillow, comfy clothes, and toiletries, that you should bring chapstick. Sounds like a good idea to me...
Good luck everyone...
Topic: RE: Got Approved the day before surgery
that is great news - congrats and good luck to both of you. It is the best decision you could ever make. I will be 2 yrs out on 6/08 and have lost over 180lbs and have about 24lbs to go!!! I have my life back and have never felt better.
Topic: RE: It's been 1 year since the Lap Band Surgery and recently I have experienced gas pains
Karen,
I'm sure that if you post on the lap band forum, someone will help you. I'm sorry I can not as I have not experienced what you are asking about.
Best Wishes,
Lyndee

Topic: RE: Anyone else traveling 2 or more hours to their surgery???
i also have about a two hour car ride to get there and back. fortunatly for me they let me do all my preadmission stuff in one day. so i dont have to go back til the day of surgery. i will stay over noght possibly 2 nights, one for sure. and i do worry about the long commute in case of emergency too. but they have the air lift helicopters. also there is a local hospital 15 minutes from me. i could always go there first in case of emergency. you'll be fine.
