I told my Boss about the surgery and i wish i would have just told her I would be out for medical reasons... with no explanation. Now I feel like its looked at a choice , but I am doing this for my health so I can live a long healthy life. There is no reason for us to explain to the others why we have made this decision. Best of Luck to you... Your employer is very fortunate to have such a dedicated employee. Rita

You know, I think I would tell the staff to tell people that you just took some time off for personal reasons. Then you're not lying, but also, people don't have to know all of the details about your life I was in that situation because I didn't really want all of my patients knowing where I was and what I was doing. (I didn't really want all of their opinions!) Worked o.k. for me! Hope that helps... Kylah

Topic: Tiny little issue...
I work in a busy dental office for 20 years. I have told all of my co workers about my surgery...but they want to know what to tell the patients while I am gone. I have never missed work before except when I had my daughter 16 years ago...and patients freak out when I am not there. I suggested to just tell them I am on vacation...which again is strange beccause I never take vacation. The girls here at work don't want to then be put in a weird position lying when people ask where I went on vacation. If they say I am taking some time off at home it sounds as if I went off the deep end or something. Anyhow...they are all stressing out about being asked too many questions and I really don't want to have my surgery be the office topic for years to come. I was just wondering if anyone else is or has been in a simular situation and if so...what should I do? I don't want to lie and deny the surgery...but I also don't want it to be what defines who I am and make it all every single patient that comes in wants to talk about. SUGGESTIONS????

Brenda I also had a ventral hernia repair in 2004 with mesh. Had lap band in December 2008, because of the mesh everything was stuck to it so it took a little longer to do the procedure but all went well. Just a little more discomfort than most but no problems. Good luck

Had my surgery 02/05/2008 everything went well. I have a little gas and feel sore on my left side of my stomach and my shoulders. This is common.

Hi Derek I had my surgery with Dr L, I stayed at the Drury Inn, Great price 69 a night, ask for Tracy the Manager to get the Oakland Bariatric rate, they have free breakfast, and nightly fingerfood, nice pool and 15 mins free long distance to Canada, the office is about 15 mins away from Dr L's so it is nice and close near the highway. If you ever want more info come over to the DS message board or the Ontario board. Good luck Kerry

Topic: 9 Days out of surgery...
I am 19 and I just had the gastric bypass 9 days ago and I am doing exellent. I got my staples out yesterday and they are healing good. I have been able to get some water in and protein shakes... and I haven't thrown up or had diarrhea at all! (YET!) How is everyone else doing? I hope just as well as I am. The only thing I get worried about is not getting all of the water in... that's hard. I was also watching Oprah on Monday and she did her show on teenagers and obesity, which being 19, is something I can relate to. So far, this was an amazing decision that was made. I feel good and I am starting to look good... even after only 9 days! Anyone have anything to say? Kylah

Topic: RE: NERVOUS & SCARED ABOUT SURGERY
Hi I am Betty aand I will be having my surgery on Fe. 18 and yes I am scared to but I know in my heart that I will be ok. I trust God and I will have folks praying for me that morning also. I will pray for you also. There are more follks dying with cancer and heart attacks then by-pass surgery. Tell your self that everything is going to be all right and put your trust in the Lord. My daughter had hers done in April of 2005 and she did great. She had 3 little girls and she was scared to. Remember there are folks out there to help and pray for you. God Bless, Betty
