Great Post Christopher! I hope my surgery goes as well. Are you able to sit in a chair comfortably or is it just in bed or on your feet? Keep us informed please. I go in on 2/13. Aloha

Post Date: 2/10/08 7:52 pm I had the Sleeve Gastrectomy 1/21/08 and I'm wondering if you have had this same procedure done, what is your post op diet like? I have been researching and there seems to be different opinions. This is what my dietitian recommends: first week post-op - CLEAR LIQUIDS 2nd to 3rd week post op - Full liquids 4th week start on PUREED I'm not sure how many weeks she wants me on pureed, but I'm thinking 3-4 weeks. Anyone else out there have this same procedure done, what is your post op diet like? Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to say "hey" to all of you February folks! I had my RNY on the 5th and I am feeling fantastic. I wanted wish those of you with upcoming surgeries the best of luck and also hoping everyone that had surgery earlier this month is doing well I have lost 10 pounds in the past 6 days and have had no problems getting my protein and fluids in everyday. I know that many people had told me that those were the two hardest things, but I don't buy it. Anywho, just wanted to stop by and send some good vibes to all of you who need it! Best wishes, Jacylyn

Not sure I understand your question... are you wanting to eat a salad instead of drinking your shake? If that is the question, then I would say NO. Salad has very little protein, a lot of carbs, and my Dr. is wanting me to do high protein only right now (I have to do it for 4 weeks, I'm 1/2 way through) It is tough not "eating" - I do get to eat protein bars, but they are all sweet/chocolate tasting... I do crave salty/sour food, but I did get the ok to drink chicken boullion... hang in there it gets easier... don't forget to drink your water...you will be peeing alot the next few weeks... Lori

Are you on an Atkins type protein diet or a protein shake kind of diet? Also, when is your surgery? I start my diet tomorrow, but it's all liquid.

I'm starting my 3rd week of the special diet my Dr requires. I've been on high protein shakes & bars only. I have to say, it really hasn't been that hard, although I've craved something salty/savory. My choices for shakes are strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. And the bars are all sweet too. So Friday I asked if I could add chicken broth/boullion and the nurse said yes!! My Dr's goal is to have me be in ketosis at the time of surgery. I do crave food in my mouth (taste mostly) but I really have to say, I'm not hungry. I drink lots of water... more than 64 ounces most days. I am also taking chewable vitamins. Hang in there... it will be easier about 3 days from now... ~Lori

I am still pre-op but I have read where a lot of people lose interest in eating but you just have to find something that halfway appeals to you that is nutritious and eat it anyhow. I think it will pass as you get into other stages of eating. Sandi

I am now 4 days post-op and came home yesterday afternoon. It's painful! The ordinary bed doesn't compare to the bed you have in the hospital. After a few attempts, I ened up sleeping in a recliner with pillows to pad me up for comfort. I only started passing gas last night and that was only 2 or 3 farts. But from the pain in my back and the bloated feeling I have I guess there is more in there. I wish I knew how to get it out. I have no appetite at all but I have been drinking Ensure. Today I'll do all warm liquids to hopefully help with the gas. I walked about 6/10s of a mile yesterday with 2 walks but I think I should have broken it up more as I was so exhausted after. It's tough but in a way it a constant reminder of the habits that will be changing.
