Topic: RE: Band, Bleeding Ulcer? Anemic, White blood cells off the chart.
I'm sorry to hear your friend is having problems. My Band surgery date is 2/25. One of the test my Dr ordered was an upper GI. The results came back that there was a possibility that I had polyps in my stomach which the Dr said could be a problem for the band. As a result I had to have a EDG which is when they put a scope down into your stomach. The EDG showed I definitely had polyps which they removed and did a biopsy on. The results of the biopsy showed that I had an infection in my stomach called H Pylori which can lead to ulcers with is another thing that is not good for the band. A prescription was called in that I had to be on for two weeks. The name of the packet was Prevpac one packet contains 8 pills. Two Prevacid, 4 Amoxicillin and 2 Biaxlin. I had to take the dosage twice a day. In the AM and PM. Was an upper GI done on your friend and a EDG if necessary prior to her Banding?

Has anyone had the surgery done in New Orleans or the Northshore? Who was your doctor? What did you think of them? And on a personal note: Was yours covered by insurance and if not what was the cost? Sorry for being so personal.

Topic: RE: 1 week out down 23 lbs.
Congrats on your loss of 23 lbs! That is an amazing loss in just one week. It must be exciting to step on the scales and see those numbers go down, down, down. I hope some of those snug clothes fit you. Heck, they might already be too big! I am pre-op and on my second day of my pre-op 10 day liquid diet. It's going pretty good, better than I expected. Enjoy those full liquids. When do you get to move up to the next level...what is it soft or pureed? Keep losing and keep us posted! Sandi

I eat my fruit whole. He never said to mash or puree them and I never asked. OOPS! But what is the difference anyways? I mean they cant tell if it was pureed or not can they. Once its in your stomach its mashed and pureed isnt it? Anyways, the carnation is ok. They do have a sugarfree one. It taste really good for the first couple of days. But then it gets a kind of nasty after taste after you've been drinking it for so many days. I wish I could eat pureed foods. I'd put chicken in the blender. I get so hungry it sucks. But I only have one more day after today! Yes!!

Topic: 1 week out down 23 lbs.
I got weighed today and WOW, 23 lbs. I am under 300, which I have been on or over the edge of for the past 3 years. The most exciting part is that I know I will keep getting further away from that #. Tomorrow when everyone leaves for work and school I am going to try on some of my more snug fit clothes and hopefully see some improvement. I am so glad to have a change of menu this week, went from clear liquids to full liquids and know I have no problem getting my protein in. Now maybe I won't be as tired.

Topic: RE: Anyone else traveling 2 or more hours to their surgery???
I had to travel almost 4 hours, but the upside is that on my taxes, after you reach a certain amount of income that you have used for medical expenses, you get to count your medical mileage. I think it is like 40 or 50 cents per mile!! You should check with you accountant.

Topic: RE: Just curious...
I hear ya! I am on week 3 of my high protein shakes/bars diet and I have very little interest in "real food" anymore..... I'm not even craving much.... i was craving salt/savory but managed to add some boullion and that solved that.... I've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks, with little effort. When I do eat "regular food" - the taste is different... my ruby red crystal light is super super strong to me! I have to dilute it almsot by 1/2!! Strange huh? Maybe the preop diet is a great way to get us on the right track after all..... My surgery is the 25th... maybe we'll be buddies. Best wishes, Lori

I started my high protein liquid diet on the 6th and let me tell you it is hard! It will be worth it in the end though as I have gotten some very encouraging words on here from other members...Just keep positive and know that know matter what you can do it and that it will be worth it in the end...Keep your head up!!

hi, hope you are doing ok it is hard dont get me wrong I have had it with the liquid stuff too. My doctor told me anything pureed with no peices, no chunks. I had some oatmeal and also had some cottage cheese with applesauce. It is getting me through this part of the diet. I go friday I dont know if I will have to continue to do the pureed foods or not, but the idea of putting pureed foods into a broth is a good idea.Did u eat the peice of fruit whole or pureed or mashed. I did mash a banana yesterday and today like making it for a baby. It was so good sweet too, I have a sweet tooth. I havent had the carnation drinks, how are they. Do they have sugar free ones. I never ever had one or bought anything like that before this is all new territory for me, eating healthy. I loved my sweets. Any other suggestions I am open for and thanks.
