I just had my surgery on Feb 14. I am feeling pretty good. I thought it was going to be hard making dinner for my family for the first time but it wasn't bad. Didn't even think twice about eating. The smell made me sick. It's like being pregnate again.

Hi Pamela: I had no pain from surgery. I did feel like a steam engine was going through my intestines when they woke up the second day. It was disconcerting but not worth pain meds. I have had ingrown toe nails, and arthritic pain worse then the pain from the intestines. I had issues with milk so I had to stay away from milk for a few days. At six weeks out, I can tolerate milk. I just had 10 ounces of milk and a scoop of Nectar protein powder that tastes like a creamsicle. I think everyone is different. I had lap surgery and felt good to go walking but needed to wait for someone to walk me medically trained. My friend wanted to walk me, but the nurse said no. I walked and walked. The catheter and the IV pole were nuisances. I know they want to hear your bowels working inside before you are allowed to go home. Topic: RE: 1 week out down 23 lbs.
Great weight loss. Hey, go to the travel channel where the guy eats things that crawl just before being cooked.......yuck. I am on pureed with introduction of more solid foods a little at a time. I am six weeks out. I had tuna yesterday and today. I used to eat the whole can now...I have four more of my mini meals of tuna! It is not the white solid tuna...it is Bumble Bee Tuna Sensations Tomato and Basil. I love it and am so happy I can eat it again. I lost lots of weight prior to my surgery so it is coming off slower than you. Topic: bard power port
my surgery is scheduled on monday 2/18. does anyone have a port for chemotherapy still in place. i have mine still and am wondering how successful i might be in convincing the anestheologist to use my port as one iv entry. dr. moon requires two. dr. moon says he cant commit to that i will have to talk to the anesthesologist myself. we all know how that goes. you cant get by the nurse who wants to run the two iv's. my veins are terrible and collapse from chemo. anyone else have this same problem? thanks in advance

Hi, I just had my surgery on Feb 11 and I am doing pretty well so far. Tuesday thought I was gonnna die....wondered what the heck I was thinking letting myself get so fat I had to go through this. The usual "day after any surgery" kinda pain. Felt like a truck ran over my middle. The hospital BMC in Springfield, MA doesn't give you pain meds until you ask for them which I think they should start a little later in the healing process. Anyway, once they told me I had to ask I swallowed my pride and asked. (I hate to ask for anything, but I asked for pain meds). By Wednesday I barely needed them anymore and only asked for the to help me sleep. I was having some trouble with my oxygen levels and tehy kept me until Thusday afternoon, which is a little longer than usualy but partly that was because there was a horrible ice storm and all the roads were being shut down so no one could have come to pick me up anyway. Sorry, I babble a lot, I have not been sick...throwing up sick, Tuesday was rough but make sure you tell them the truth when you are in pain and ask for meds.) If you have ever had a baby; the next day reminds me a little of that kinda feeling, groggy and uncomfortable and they want you to walk but your stomach feels really heavy. I wish I had known a little bit more how much it would hurt the next day but I have never had any real surgeries before so I didn't know. (AND the meds helped!)

Topic: RE: Anyone else on a liquid diet pre-op? Share your experience
I finished my pre-op liquid diet last Saturday (I had clear liquids Sun and my surgery on Monday). I used Slim-Fast Lo-Carb (which I can only find now at Wal-Mart) and I used Atkins shakes. I didn't care much for the Carnation either. I bougth some Swanson Vegetarian Vegetable broth which I found to have much more flavor than the beef or chicken. I combined my starch and veggie each day which was the highlight of my day. I had 1/3 cup hummus and I dipped raw baby carrots into it. I had this with some broth at meal time so I could sit at the table with my family. I drank lots of Crystal light and I found myself going to bed really early so the days would go by quicker. I am a Diet Coke-aholic and have been for 25 years so I spent my two weeks trying to deal with the heartbroke and loss of my BFF Diet Coke. The two weeks went by really fast...surprised me too. Pam

I'm a bit nervous - my surgery is scheduled for next monday (Feb 25th) and neither my doctor nor the nutrionist (which is on the doctor's staff) told me to be on any special diet except "clear liquids 24 hours in advance & nothing after midnight" In fact - I have a big dinner party tonight (16th) & then one next Saturday (23rd). Now I'm really nervous!!! Michelle

Topic: Initial Consultation for WLS scheduled for 03/04/08 w/ Dr. Kuhn
Hello everyone! I have been coming to this site multiple times a day for the last week after a friend of mine recommended it to me. People on this sight helped guide her through her successful WLS 4 years ago, and now I could really use some help. I am 31 yrs. old and have a BMI of 39.7 with no other health problems. Today I finally made the first couple of steps to help myself by calling my insurance company (UHC) and then called Dr. Joseph Kuhn and got an appointment on March 4, 2008 for an initial consultation. Does anyone have any advise for me for this first appointment?!?

I really want to get a hold of him and i know he lives in monmouth county. If anyone know, please write.
