Topic: Only 1 week away!!
Well here I am only one week away from my surgery. I'm so excited! I had my meeting w/the nutritionist to talk about my post op foods - pureed protein for a month... I know my Dr. has one of the strictest post op food guidelines....
I wonder what people's average time off work has been? I'm having laprascopic RNY and am only planning on taking a week off work.... any thoughts?
Thanks,
Lori

Thank you Joanne! That is exactly how I was feeling. She gave me some literature today, but my mind is made up. Thank you for your time and I believe that this is the best thing that I can do for myself as well.

Thanks for replying I appreciate it. What do you do for a living? I am just trying to get everything done while I am off instead of having to do it when school starts again in Septemeber. Oh well, I will just do what I have to do...
Thanks again.
Topic: RE: New here and surgery tomrw 2-19-08 Last minute advice? Any asthmatics?
Well I don't really have asthma but I'm sure if there was any concerns that your doctor had about your asthma and the surgery then he prolly ould of told you for safety and precautions sake. The other thing is I love my steak and potatoes too but I've found that yougart really isn't that bad or at least the one's we're supposed to have (I've always like yougart but the on'es with the most sugar) I've found that if you like strawberries than Dannon Sugar and Card control Strawberries and cream really is good and I eat one container and I'm fully till my next meal. I think you'll do fine tomorrow, if you're like me about getting there you will get into the room and then the next thing you know you're in recovery!
Topic: RE: I looking for a friend... Can you help me?
Well the only thing I can think of is try to find him on www.yellowbook.com or www.yellowpages.com that is if you have his name and his wear about he lives at. Oh I hope you find the person good luck and let us know if you did or not

Congrats on your surgery tomorrow! I know you must be filled with mixed emotions. I have asthma too, though mild. They told me to bring my inhaler and I would probably have to take a couple of puffs before they put me under just as a precaution. But then, like I said, my asthma isn't that bad.
I know what you mean about being a meat and potatoes kind of person. I love my steak and potatoes. It may be a while, but I will eat steak again! We just have to take it slow and let out bodies tell us when we are ready.
Good luck and post when you get back to let us know how it went! I am on the 21st so I am just two days after yours.

I have BCBS also and I had to do the six month diet as well. It was a pain in the rear and yes those copays add up, but if that's your insurance's requirements then that's what you have to do. My doctor was able to work with me and since my appointments were super quick in/out just get the weight and talk about diet and exercise for a few minutes. We always scheduled me the first patient of the day that way I was in and out quick (before she got behind) and I was usually only 30 minutes late for work.
I finished up my diet back in November and was approved in January (after having to appeal a denial).
If you want the surgery, you just have to do it. As much as it is ridiculous and just jumping through hoops for insurance's sake.

You do what you need to do for you and your health. Being overweight is a sin if that's the case. I been a christian all my life my grandfather was my pastor, and we attend chrch on a regular. I feel great about my decision and everyone who tried to talk me out of getting surgery are now asking me questions, and researching for there own benefit. My suggestion to you is not to share with anyone else, other than us here who understand. People can be jealous.
Topic: RE: Initial Consultation for WLS scheduled for 03/04/08 w/ Dr. Kuhn
HEllo--
I went to my consult on the 15th of Feb. It was ok. I had to wait awhile but it was worth it. Now I have to ball rolling. I got a list of what my insurance company needs. I am in the process of getting all of that done. I have to be on a weight loss program that is doctor supervised for 6 months and that will be a pain in the butt!!! I mean it!!! I know they don't think about all the WL programs we tried that was not supervised. I have spent a fortune. Now I will have to go to the dr every month for 6 months and pay $25 every time. That kinda is a pain but I feel like it will be worth it...
I would go in there and tell him what you have researched and what you want done--he will probably suggest what he thinks is best for you--I was really nervous too but then it turned out okay...
