Topic: Surgery Date March 20, 2008
Hi everyone, I'm new to this and just wanted to know if anyone out there is having surgery on March 20, that's my date. Dr. David Starr is my surgent. I started the optifast diet today. Absolutely brutal.

Dr. Guillermo Alverez in Mexico. $10,000 I am 5 days post-op from a VSG and doing great. Please check out the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy forum, there are more and more folks doing revisions from Lap Band to VSG because the band has complications.

Topic: RE: 6 month wlp
Hello and welcome to the boards. Honestly, I was just as frustrated when I found out I had to do the 6 month pre-op period of supervised diet with monthly dr visits. I felt ready to go and thought that was such a waste of time -- in hind site, I was so wrong! That 6 months was so valuable! I read everything I could find, talked to my doctors and to others. I was so mentally and physically prepared by the time I had surgery that I have bounced back in record speed. I returned to work 11 days after Laproscopic RNY bypass surgery. Don't look it as a problem turn it into a positive. Take advantage of the time to get yourself fully prepared for the life change surgery will bring. It goes by much quicker than you can imagine. Before you know it -- you'll be on the losers bench! BEST WISHES! Hang in there!

So do you have much swelling after a fill? I'm just finally getting the swelling down after my surgery, and I have my first meeting with the doc on the 4th of March. My belly's big enough without all this swelling!

Topic: RE: Started my liquid diet today
I was on the high protien/liquid diet for 2 weeks before my surgery. Yes, it was tough, but I also lost 20 lbs. during that time. If your diet is high protien, low carb, see if your doc will let you have some beef/turkey jerky, a boiled egg or cheese during the day when you find yourself hungry. The other thing that helped me was s/f jello. I guess it all depends on your diet. Mine was 2 high protien shakes, then meat/protien and veggies at night, but we were allowed high protien substitutes when needed.

Topic: BCBS is approving now!!!
Dr. Speigal's office is getting a lot of approvals from BCBS right now...........I have a PPO. You must get the proper docs and it has to be structured the way they want to have it, but it was worth the 3 mo. ordeal. I went through the same delays from my PCP and they don't want to get as involved as they have to. It paid off as I got my approval yesterday. I should have my Lap BAnd surgery in about 3 wks. Just so you know....................let me know if you have questions on the format to file this information to get the approval the first time!!!!

Topic: New to the WLS journey
Hello Everyone, I just wanted to say hello and let you know that there is yet another one who is on the same path to weight loss as you. I am 37 yrs. old, no children. I have done everything up to having a surgery date scheduled. Now I am at a complete halt because my PCP won't sent any paperwork to the surgeon that I have selected because he doesn't have any hospital priviledges. I don't know how to feel at this point. I was just starting to get excited and now I feel like someone has knocked the wind out of me. Anyway, didn't mean to be so wordy, but I did want to show my face out there. PurpleDiamond
