Topic: Weight Loss?
Hi Everyone: I had surgery just over a month ago and have lost 16 pounds so far. I was wondering if the weight should be coming off faster. I eat three small meals a day but still find myself wanting to "nibble" in the evening. I have never had a problem with vomiting or food getting stuck. My appetite has certainly decreased but I'm disappointed in my overall weight loss so far. Just wondering how you all are doing and if this is normal. I had my first "fill" a week ago and it helped with the hunger but as I said I still get the munchies in the evening. Just wondering how it's been for anyone else. Let me know. Thanks!

I had been doing really well up until yesterday. I started having major lower ab pain (almost like gas), and then started throwing up anything that came near my pouch. Kept on that way all through the night. I called the doc this a.m. and they are having me come in for IV fluids, phenergran and possible endoscopy. They suspect either stomach/GI virus (wouldn't that be my luck) or stricture. I'll update you when I learn more.
As for weight, I have NO IDEA what I've lost yet. Home scale is broken (prolly a good thing), and I was just gonna find out at my post op this coming Thursday. I know I've lost quite a good amount, cause clothes gettin' REALLY baggy on me!
Hope everyone else is doing well!

I just weighed myself this morning at home...it is now exactly 2 weeks from my surgery & I have lost 15.5 lbs!!!!
BUT, pain wise....I'm still not where I thought I would be...this dang pain under the untensil incision is still killing me (like a stabbing knife), although now it's less frequent. I was supposed to go back to work next week, which would have been 3 weeks off...but I dont think I'll be ready so I already called my H/R dept & extended my time off an extra week (thank goodness for short term disability!!!)

I had surgery 2/12 and taking pills for me just ruins my day. I have so many pills to take in the morning and at least 5 at night. I crushed them in the beginning and that about made me sick drinking them in liquid..so I started just swallowing the small ones and biting the bigger ones in half. It takes me a half an hour to get them down and I feel real full when it's over (and sick!!) I'm having problems getting any protein in at all OR calcium citrate. There's just got to be a better way!! The headaches are probably just a withdrawal of high carb foods that you were accustomed to eating. I went through that too in the beginning. Also, probably not getting enough food too. I felt sick all the time in the beginning....now I always feel like laying around.

I also had surgery on that date and would love to compare notes with someone like me. I am doing okay...definitely have lost some weight, but sometimes have a hard time distiguishing full. I'm wanting to drink water all the time. Tell me how you're doing!!

Last week I went for my 10 day check up and had lost 18 lbs. I am finally noticing a change in the way clothes fit. According to my scales I have lost another 5-6 lbs since then. I have eaten a couple of things that didn't agree with me so up it came. Sometimes it just can't be avoided. I felt better immediately. Not sure if it was the food, that I ate too fast, ate too much or just wasn't ready for that particular food. Live and learn. I am very careful with my portion sizes and venturing out and trying new foods.
I go back to work tomorrow so I hope things go smoothly. It's been 2 1/2 weeks and I guess I am ready (gonna miss my afternoon naps...lol).
So how are the other February people doing?

Hello. I had surgery on Feb. 6. I am in the soft foods stage and Thursday will move to no restrictions but I, too, have had a tough time with figuring out what to eat. I am getting Sonic Grilled chicken wraps and eating the chicken out of those. It is very moist and 1/2 the chicken is filling. Then I eat the other half usually the next day. Cottage cheese, deli lunch meat (generally turkey), SF pudding, unsweetened applesauce, 93% diet ground beef, and tuna w/light miracle whip. Those seem to be the staples in my diet. I also made tuna helper and added the tuna at the end (I put 2oz tuna in a measuring cup and then put the mixture on top). I've had toast with hard boiled egg mixed with light miracle whip.
I'm down about 30 pounds from Jan. 25 and see the Dr. on the 21st so it will be more specific then. Make sure you are drinking as much as you can (I know it's hard to eat and drink in the same day because the liquids will help flush the fat out.
Feel free to look up my blog as I have chronicled my experiences so far and I list what I've eaten.
Good Luck. Crystal

Thank you for the reply, I am now down 23, but lost 31 in the 5 weeks prior to surgery. I am still on pureed foods, the NUT told me no cheese except cottage or ricotta, so I will wait until a week from this coming Wednesday when I can have solids without purrering them I really can only eat 2 - 3 tablespoons per meal. I can try bread, pasta and rice that same day. I cannot have fresh fruit/lettuce for6 months. I have heard that crabmeat is very good for us afer RNY. So far nothng has made me sick, which I am thankful for. It is not as easy as I thought, but day by day I am getting the hang of it.
Good luck and thanks for writing.

had mine 2/13/08, I am down 30 total (including the 7 form the liquid diet before) I am eating all kinds of things, I try something new everyday. The nut had given me apaper with soft proteins and that was it. I have had triscuits with seafood salad today, 1/2 a wrap sandwhich with italian roast beef shredded cheese, a little lettuce, mayo. I went back to work on 2/25 and feel great. Remembering all my meds is the biggest obstacle. Feel free to send me a message if you want to kee in touch!
