Topic: upset stomach
Hi everyone. I am writing for my husband who had rny surgery 2/28/08. Due to a vision problem he can't type so I am his assistant. I am also working on getting insurance approval for my surgery.
He has not had too many problems. But a few times he is getting an upset stomach. He said he isn't nauseous. He is on the soft protein only now. But he had more than 2 ounces tonight and it was too much. Any suggestions on what he can take to settle his stomach. thanks
Topic: RE: Weight Loss?
6 weeks tomorrow and I am down at least 40lbs. I still have a hard time either getting in all my protein or all my fluids. It seems like there is not enough time in the day to get all this in since we need to sip our fluids. Yesterday my pouch was not liking any liquids, It was like swallowing a rock. But I was fine with my foods, go figure. I get weighed at the doc this week, so I hope it matches my home scale.

I had my lap band surgery on 2/13/08. At my 2 week follow up appointment I lost 21 lbs since surgery. However on 3/10 I had gained 5 lbs. I was in shock. But I was also told by dietician @ hospital that my body went into starvation mode because I wasn't EATING ENOUGH CALORIES OR PROTEIN. I was having less than 300 cals per day and I was only taking in about 20 grams of protein per day. I had gotten constipated 3 days after starting solids (for 5 days---OUCH) and had some reduced fat cheese (only 2 oz) but all of the changes my body was going through, plus not drinking enough water, my body was holding onto whatever I took in (eating.) I started taking MIRILAX AND COLACE to help with the "problem" and I have lost 2 lbs in 6 days. I wi**** was more, but what else can I do? I walk every day for almost 2 hours. Brisk walk, not running or lounging. So I was shocked. Some people have to work harder for the same result and some work really hard and lose less. Our bodies are all different. I think 16 lbs in a month is great! If you are concerned about it, call your surgeon or the dietician/nutritionist where you had your surgery. Perhaps they can recommend something that can help your cravings @ night. I love the sf popsicles. I also like the sugar free jello, and I make a parfait with sugar free cool whip (mix them together once jello is set). It is really awesome. Herbal tea with Splenda helps me @ night, too. I suggest making sure you are getting enough water throughout the day AND make sure you get your protein in & exercise as much as possible, 30 mins of exercise per day (that's what my surgeon told me). I am supposed to have at least 60 oz of protein per day and 80 oz of water per day. I didn't come this far and go through the whole pre-op process AND surgery to give up on myself now. I know you want to succeed and I believe you will. Don't be too hard on yourself and if you fall off the wagon, just get back up and start over. Success is not determined by our failings, but failing to get up and try again once we've fallen is NOT SUCCESS. You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

I had my surgery 2/11 and haven't had my first fill yet. I get hungry too and have the urge to nibble. What has worked for me is sugar free popsicles. I know sounds crazy right? I also try drinking my protein shake @ night (I use Muscle Milk-Light). Try it, it may work for you.
Good Luck.

I had a RNY bypass and at two weeks had lost 18 lbs. It's been another week and though I am sure I have lost more, my scales are whacked out and seriously wrong so I have no idea how much more I may have lost, but I am sure I am probably losing.
People are saying they see it in my face and neck and I know I see it in my bust size.

Topic: RE: How's everyone doing?
Im 5 weeks post op and i feel great, very energetic, so very happy with my decision. I've lost 40 lbs. The pain on my left side is gone and the only problem i had was, i was nauseous for about 5 days and i couldn't drink water because it would make me vomit , so what i did was put some lemon and splenda on the water and it was fantastic , it helped with the nausea and it was very refreshing. I suggest everyone to try it if the get nauseous.
Hope to GOD that everything is well with everyone.

Congratulations to EVERYONE doing so well (except Tracy - OUCH! hope you're feeling better now).
Today is day 15 post-op and I FINALLY feel like I can eat enough to fill my pouch. I know we RNYGBers are not supposed to feel physical hunger, but I often felt empty. Now I can eat a bit of veggies and some protein (at one time!) and feel satisfied.
I've lost 20 pounds, and am trying to keep the calories up so I don't lose too quickly (afraid of gallstones). My neck skin is sagging. Gonna have to go scarf shopping...wattle is NOT cute
Topic: RE: Irrational Fears - RNYGP, but no Weight Loss?
Thank you to all of you for your responses. One of you wrote about, "Of course you're afraid - nothing has ever worked before" and I think that was IT! Always limited (if any) success, followed by regaining all the weight. Like this FUTILE battle that I've been fighting for 37 years...
Thanks again - I'm so glad this board is here.
Topic: RE: Funeral for Food
My surgery was 2/27 and I was just like Miriam. Actually, I spent the week before surgery saying good-bye to all my favorite foods IN PERSON, but it was AFTER the surgery that I thought "WHAT did I DO?"
I'm just at a little over two weeks and still on mush, but continue to work through my feelings of loss. There is a support group in my city that meets next week - I'll be there. And I keep telling myself, "I will eat again...stuff that requires CHEWING!"
At this point I don't miss food as much as what it represented for me: time with friends, cooking in the kitchen, shopping for special ingredients, planning meals, etc.
Miriam, your words were good for me to hear. I have to focus on my ability to get off meds, be able to exercise without pain, and maybe put my "food" energy into something more productive...
Thanks for this post.
